Yes, you need a heat gun to remove it, its on there with a steel bushing underneath and red loctite to the barrel. There is a very high chance you'll melt or muck up the sight while removing it. When I had mine I replaced it with a front sight from redlion precision.

Several years ago before the Sub 2K gen 2 came out I put a Red Lion Precision forend on my Sub 2K. I'm quite happy with it, and I do prefer it over the gen 2 forend due to the fact the RLP forend indexes. Would I do it again now that the gen 2 is out? Probably not, but if it's something you just have to try I understand completely. I ordered the forend through a company called Iron Eagle Tactical who handled the fun stuff. Stupidly I forgot to include the front sight, so my sub 2k has not had a front sight in years. Hope this lead helps.
