Now that these two guns have been out for a while I was wondering what those of you that have owned one of these for a while can say about their durability.

In other words have any problems started showing up after a couple thousand rounds ?

Thanks in advance for the info.

I have had the kel tec for over a year now, at first I was dissapointed, I wanted the rifle as a back pack gun, I felt it was cheap, the trigger was plastic after all. I have put 3000+ through it and it still works just fine. Mine seams to not like 115gr hollow points it often stove pipes, but anything heavier shoots reliably and no stopages. It has been on two trips and no parts broke. The very first trip to the range I broke the front sight, my falt. A 10 cent nut and bolt fixed that. My wife and daughter love the thing, when they come to the range I need at least 200 rounds to keep them from getting board while I do my thing.

The biggest flaw with the Kel-Tec I feel is the plastic bit that you use to adjust the front sight, easy to strip by accident. Other then that I haven't had a problem, the only two stoppages where FTE with my son, hasn't happened since the first two hundred rounds.

The bare metal stock is hell on the cheek though, certainly feel the bolt moving about.

I really like my JR carbine. After buying a replacement magizene (cause I lost the first one ) and broke the rifle in. It seems to work just fine. I like it in 9mm. Wife has a 9mm baby eagle so I only need to buy lots of 9mm

I have the Kel tec and its been 100% reliable. Yes it's plastic and feels cheap but don't let that fool you.it folds up nice and compact where the others don't.
You might want to look at the Theron defence 9 mm guns too. Similar to the jr ones and also non restricted and takes Glock mags. Breaks down like a regular AR and easy to clean where as the jr carbine is more of a chore to break down.

Have you handled them both?

It becomes pretty obvious which is the better built gun, and in turn the more durable.

I've only handled the Kel Tek. is the JR the better built one ?

Also, what about the Hi Point carbines ? They are a fair bit cheaper but are they true junk ?

I like my Sub 2000 a lot, have been shooting it for over a year, had an issue at the begining, but solved it quick and had no more problems ever since. Personally i havn't came across any ammo that wont work reliably in my sub. Some ammo might be dirtier then other, and even then you just have to clean it better.

IMHO: i dont like the looks of JR and Thureon defence carbines. They both look like AR wannabes of some sort.. Sub 2000 has a very unique design of its own.. not to mention it folds in half and fits in a backpack.

I like customizing my guns, so i gave my Sub a new look :)

Buy Sub 2000, look past the plastic, and you will not be disappointed.. :)

do keltec use pistol mags?, i have a jr .45 on layaway, i like the ability to switch the charging handle to the l/h side, i have my issc mk22 set up like that..its slick!

Yes, the Sub-2000 does use pistol mags. You can get versions that use either Glock mags, Beretta mags, or Sig mags, depending on which model you want. That is, provided you jump fairly quickly on them when a shipment arrives.

WOW!!!!! Dimitri that is Badass!! Is that the red lion precision quad rail? And where did you get the barrel shroud that looks f$$king sweet!! I Gotta have one. Would it work with the standard keltec quad rail?? Looks awesome with mag holder on the side. very nice work!!

I really like my JRC in 9mm. I've shot it about 1500 times now over the summer. Not a single problem. Haven't cleaned or lubed it yet.

I've been shooting S&B 124gr.

People are worried about the charging handle rubbing on the receiver and wearing. After 1500 rounds down the pipe it hasn't started to ware the paint.

I don't see any problems in the future.

One thing I will add is an over sized charging handle. My girlfriend has a hard time cycling the action when its not cocked.

The problem I see is that the way the Keltec Sub 2000 folds, you have to remove the optic and replace it every time you want to use it.
