Kelbly atlas tactical or Bighorn origin?

No, I haven't pulled the trigger on another short action yet. I'm just playing with my newly built 7 saum. New build will hopefully start in the fall so I can have it dialed for next season

Well I can tell you from experience, for the money the kelbly is second to none. Between myself and my shooting partner we own 2 stillers, a surgeon 591, KS SAR, kelbly atlas tac, bighorn tl3, 2 deviants, terminus Zeus, had a Curtis vector, and an impact. I’ve handled and shot roughly 25 rounds through an origin as well. The kelbly comes with some of the best customer service in the industry, family run company who know how to build, mechanical ejector works fantastic, and smooth is an understatement. The origin is nice, don’t get me wrong. And zermatt/bighorn build a hell of an action, and the features are nice. The only thing I see that the origin in Canada has going for it over the atlas is the fact Tom carries prefits. That said, PVA makes prefits for the atlas so Tom
Could bring them in too and insite might as well now that they build off them regularly. Other then that I feel the atlas is a slightly nicer, smoother action.

Just to chime in as I have the exact setup the OP is asking about. I just picked up the atlas tactical action and put a TT special in. I am getting that hitch for #### on close. It’s just enough to bother me and I’m considering modding the trigger hanger to allow a tiny bit of forward adjustment so I can at least shift the hitch toward the down stroke of the handle. Right now, you only notice the hitch if you are deliberately VERY slow lowering the handle. Any fluid motion will create enough forward momentum to skip over the hitch so I would say probably not noticeable. I may try a TT diamond to see if there’s a difference. I have also considered grinding the cocking piece to remove the #### on close but it’s so well machined that I figure the trigger hanger would be easier to change and be reversible.

I currently have a diamond on mine and have no noticeable hitch what so ever. My bighorn is the only action that has that problem. And it feels more of a grind

This thread got me to get to it and machine my trigger hanger. I milled the holes into slots and also had to remove around 10 thou from the front lip of the hanger to slide it forward by that amount. Now the pin fall is 0.230” and the hitch is gone. I also swapped the tapered head screws for flat ones to have more clamping on the now slotted hanger. If I need to move the hanger back for another trigger, I would add a small set screw to act as an adjustable stop which removes the shear stresses from the screws in the slots. This is pretty much exactly like the adjustable hanger that Kelbly sells for their fancy pandas.

I have 2 Bighorn Origin actions.
They definitely are #### on open, and are stiff to open too.
Less than certain 3 lug short throw actions, but stiff none the less.

I was perceiving pressure on bolt lift, and after a few dry fire sessions I noticed how hard it is to get open.
Still love my Origins, have one on a PRS build and one on an ultralight hunter build, will get a 3rd one for service rifle 308 build soon.

I'm used to 3 lug lift and don't find it overly stiff when operating the gun in normal conditions. So any 2 lug will feel lighter I'm sure. It's the #### on close I don't want. I have a howa for a cheap 223 plinker and the bolt close feel is disgusting to me. The nucleus close with zero resistance

The origin closes smooth as butter.
R700 interface drop in with 100% no tuning AICS feeding,
Tried and tested with 2 different MDT stocks, 2 Manners stock, in 7.62 and 6.5

Just wanted to bump this up. I ended up with a bighorn origin and I absolutely love it. I highly recommend this action. I still love my nucleus actions but this thing is beyond smooth and light.

Well I'm still waiting for dies. But I stole a 243 seating plug and put it in my 6.5 dies.

This is shots 2, 3, and 4 through the barrel at 100 yards with hornady 108 factory ammo. Getting 2960 fps average.

This was n560 behind a 115 RDF in virgin Peterson brass. 2860 fps average. Showing some good potential early on.

Origin is amazing for sure. I have 2 bolt heads for mine. Haven't swapped between calibers yet. I have a nucleus with swappable heads as well. There is a giant thread on snipers hide about origin builds. Its a highly regarded action

Ive got a Kelblys atlas action. Im very happy with it, silky smooth bolt and I really like their ejector system. A friend has a big horn action which I have got to play with and It also seems to be a very nice action. I dont think you can go wrong either way
