well another great weekend in Kelowna, 2 phenomenal matches. Loved(hated) the double Cooper Tunnel. I really liked the amount of movement we had, didn't especially like the Fixed Time Standards, not sure why they throw them in, when they do such a good job with the rest of the stages. But it certainly won't keep me from going back again! Nick and Marcie, and everyone else that set up these matches deserve a great big thanks from all of us who attended. I've heard some #####ing about the number of DQ's, and IMHO, it was a result of new shooters (for the most part) trying to go too fast, and not watching what they were doing with their muzzle. If you're new, don't try to run a stage in the same time as a GM. If a GM does it in 25-30 seconds, aim for 35-40 with your hits, until you know you're safe running at full speed and coming to a stop when required.

Oh, and I was told by one competitor that he is scared to have me RO him. Apparently I am too much of a hardass? I have to admit I was dumbfounded by that remark, I've always thought I was one of the most easy going ROs around?

Yeah, I don't get that comment either "don't sound like one" You always seem reasonable in your posts, and word of mouth in the lower mainland is that you are a good guy. Haven't met you yet, but I am sure that day will come. :)
 
Yes I follow the rules, and will DQ someone for breaking them, but I'm always friendly, helpful, and in a good mood. I don't think I've ever been harsh to someone or overly strict (beyond the rules). If I have been I'd appreciate knowing so that I don't do it again. If I act like an #######, tell me, the last thing I want to do is intimidate new shooters, or piss off seasoned ones! This sport works best if people can get along and have fun. If I somehow am not contributing to that I need to know.

I was the other RO working with Slavex on Saturday (I was doing the scoring). I didn't think Slavex was being hard on anyone. Everything I saw was fair and above board. Slavex is only intimidating when he smiles :p.

As for me, my shooting sucked on both days and my scores reflect that. I still had a fun time and the stages were interesting and challenging. It was a little nippy in the mornings but nice & sunny. Thanks Nick & Marcy for all your hard work putting on these matches. See ya next year.
 
Are you loud when ROing? I had some people not like me ROing them because I try and ensure that the whole range hears me. (You know the standard "Eye & Ears" & "Gun Clear, Range Clear".)
 
I was loud in stage 1 due to stage 2 being able to drown us out with their gunfire. I typically only speak range commands unless I know the shooter well enough to know they won't be put off by a small conversation during the LAMR. And I try not to initiate that as I understand a person needs that time to focus their mental game.
 
Rob, you are a good R.O. Someone who doesn't know you might be taken aback by the fangs but I've never heard anyone say you were too hard on them or unfair.
 
I've RO'd this person before and he said he never likes me ROing him. Oh well guess you can't please everyone, as much as you'd like to.
 
i like slavex as an RO and as a match director. it was fun setting up his match last year at poco, never barked orders, always asked for input and always took input in to thought. hopeing to see another "swim the river,fight the bear" and as always i will be there to help set up .
 
In my opinion as a RO you must make sure that there is no misunderstanding of the range commands there is no room for idle chit chat during the proses of starting a stage. There will be time to talk after but while the shooter is in the control of the RO all the range commands must be clear and to the point to avoid any confusion. Talking and trying to be friendlily during the start of a stage might be taken as go ahead and start I've seen this happen.

Anyway I've shot with Slavex and been RO'd by him and I think he does a great job.
