Finally got out the the range after a long wait for an impulse buy. Theres a lot of hate on Keltec , but the Cp33 has interested me from the first time I saw it online. Having only 1 other 22LR Pistol made it a bit easier to justify buying it.
When it arrived I was a bit surprised at the size of it, it's a big pistol from the grip to the long section of rail real estate on the upper.
Take down is dead simple 1 single take down pin, no need to dry fire, upper slides off easy. Charging handle and bolt slide out nicely. It took me a second when reinstalling to get the buffer tucked in properly to slide in the guide rails machined into the slide.
I've seen a lot of stories of rim lock and feeding issues. On my first mag I did have an issue on the second round. After paying a bit more attention while loading the next 19 magazine loads went smooth no mag or gun related failures. I did have 2 failure to fire from the bulk Federal black pack ammo.
This gun shoots flat! Its very accurate I was shooting a steel plate so only had a nice circle in the freshly painted steel plate to go by. Next time out I'll have to use a paper target and see how it groups. I only had a bit over a hour for range time so i just wanted to dump some lead downrange after the lockdown.
I caught myself a few times hitting the bolt catch to drop the bolt on mag changes. Its a hold open only, you have to use the charging handle to charge after a mag change. The charging handle is effortless compared to a semi auto sporting rifle.
The Williams fire fiber optics sights are really bright. I might either darken the rears with black marker as I found them too bloom a bit and lost reference on the front even when only trying to focus on the front sight. I prefer a plain square notch rear sight , the rear red fiber optic might of been to busy. Easy enough to fix. The factory sights seemed to be spot on for elevation, I only had to adjust windage slightly to the left.
Outside of the initial mistake of loading the magazine wrong, and the 2 dud's, I had no more issues everything ran smooth. While I was shooting I thought that this would make a nice setup with a Micro Roni type conversion with a red dot.
After I got home I stripped it down to give it a quick clean, Outside of the bolt and chamber area on the upper the gun seemed pretty clean overall. I can see the firing pin channel in the bolt to be a spot too keep an eye on. There was quite a bit of carbon on the bolt face from only 200 rnds and especially around the firing pin hole. I'm guessing it's not going to be able to go 1000 rounds without being cleaned out.
Overall Im pretty happy with it , no buyers regrets what so ever. I'll end up getting either some grip tape or a stippling job. More from a personal preference to aggressive grips than anything else. Might end up trying a RDS on it at one point. I'll try to make a point of updating this after 1000-2000 rounds and see how I feel with different ammo and more trigger time with it.
