Keltec SU 16 piercing primers.

I bought a second hand SU 16 and discovered it has some troubles piercing primers.

The pierced primers than throw tiny bits of brass into the bolt group and make a heck of a mess causing jams, FTF, FTE light strikes etc.

I've taken it apart twice and cleaned it but not having any luck here.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.
 
Is the firing pin actually piercing the primer or is the primer blowing back and rupturing? A quality picture of your bolt face and of the fired ammo would help. Is it reloads or factory?

Don't fire it again until this is sorted out.
 
Hmmm, it looks like I don't have permission to post pictures.

Its all factory ammo and I tried several different brands.

It looks like the firing pin tip may be a bit 'pointy' and the fit of the firing pin and the firing pin hole a little loose. The poor fit is going to be a continuing problem getting worse with every primer that fails. I suggest getting it to a gunsmith for confirmation. Maybe ask the previous owner what's up?
 
I'm of the same way of thinking as you.

I don't know the previous owner as I bought it at a local dealer.

Perhaps replacing the bolt and the firing pin would solve my issue?
 
I know of one other case where this was happening on a SU16, the firing pin hole in the bolt face was oversized from factory and allowing the primers to flow back and rupture through the gap around the pin. The solution was to contact Vault distribution and obtain a new bolt from Kel-Tec which was covered as a warranty item to the original purchaser. In your case you may have to pay out of pocket but it should get you back on the go.

If the original owner fired this rifle it is almost certain that it was doing this right out of the box and is not a developed condition.

That should solve your problem.
 
Goonsquad has it right. I had the same thing happen. I contacted Vault and they sent out a new bolt with a smaller (correctly sized) firing pin hole and a new firing pin. I think I posted about this about a year back. It is not all that difficult to do this yourself. It is the same disassembly you would do for a major action cleaning, I just found the procedure on the web as I did not have the manual.
 
I just got a new bolt and firing pin today for this rifle. Met up with the dealer I bought it from and they have me the parts free of charge.

Changed them out and now she's running like a champ. Night and day difference. I ran 30 rounds of Norrinco through it with no problems.
