Keltec su 16 tactical a viable option ?

I am also in the market for a su 16e and I found there is a foreend replacement from a company in the states called red lion precision, trying to find out if they will send it to us here in Canada because I heard they didn't ship to a few people. this is actually a very great looking rifle if you're looking to go "tacticool". Being that it takes AR-15 style mags and has AR style stock finally chambered in .223 for 1200 dollars you cant really go wrong....the only problem is I can't find any reviews on the tactical version.

I think the SU-16 a good rifle as a bush gun: super light etc. As a super-light bush gun however, the Troy PAR is superior as it is far more accurate and I think more reliable too.

Not to play devils advocate here but try the Mini 14 (especially the new 58x series). You may be surprised.
I was in the exact frame of mind as you, I owned almost every other NR black rifle option that was available at the time chasing the dragon. I ended up settling with a stock config 582 series mini-14.
Got her for $800 second hand new off the EE. No it doesn't look like an AR but after owning an XCR-L, AR180b, T97, Tavor, SU16 over the years I realized that I could have a NR very reliable, light carbine that still shoots .223 at a literal fraction of the cost. The new 582 series has a beefed up barrel at the stock ferrule and actually surprised me very much with the accuracy.
Just my two cents. Give it a try from someone who did the full circle, came out disappointed and settled happily on a mini14.

just picked up an SU16 tactical recently. I've been shooting crappy ammo through it (MFS55 Gr steel case).
I read a lot and watched many videos about this gun. Saw many bad reviews, failure to feed and extract issues. Most posts were at least a couple of years old. Perhaps Kel Tec addressed these issues because I have not had a single issue yet with this gun. Very happy with the purchase and not one failure. I have shot through the 10 round mags as fast as possible twice in a row and no issues.
hope that helps.

If you don't mind bullpups, and aren't left handed, I can attest to the fact that the T97 is a tougher, better quality black rifle when compared to the SU16.

Some here hate both, while some love both. From someone who has owned both and not bias, I would go T97. Unless you're dead set on an AR-15 looking rifle.

I'd NEVER buy an SU-16 based solely on the fact they have a track record of the receiver cracking/breaking just from regular useage.

The rifles are an awesome concept I will not lie, weight very little but the materials used in this configuration have spoken loudly in regards to a severe design fault where they can break like seen above.

Due to that major flaw this rifle is a NO GO.

The tactical does not have that break issue. I also believe it was corrected but could be wrong.
My buddy has a t97 and said to go for the kel tec. The t97 has enough issues itself, particularly all the parts need constant tightening.

Fun little plinker, terrible competition rifle.

I considered the SU and after shooting on and talking to some owners I went with a CX. Sold the CX, regretted it, bought another. As a bonus, all my Battlestar Galactica fan boy/girl friends love shooting it!
