I am seriously thinking about getting a su-16. I have the sub 2000 and love it. When I pull it out when camping everybody gathers around. My question is does anybody have any hands on experience with the su-16? It says it takes AR mags. I like the fold in have thing. You can also install a pistol grip on it I think. Help make me pull out the VISA card!

I have no hands-on experience, but I've read about some things on the SU-16 on here.
1. Use the search button!!! there's tons of info on this site
2. the plastic receivers have broken in half before. Yikes!
3. yes you can put a pistol grip on it, but from the ones I've seen they're aren't changeable/interchangable with AR-15 pistol grips. And I think only Kel-Tec makes a conversion kit to get the pistol grip.
4. Yes it will take AR-15 mags. there's recently been a pic of a SU-16 that'll run PMags too.

There are others that do have hands-on experience with this platform that can give you better info than I can.

I like mine - it's light, portable, and acceptably accurate.

And it uses STANAG magazines.

I transport it folded, in a soft case, with the scope fixed in position - never had a worry with it yet.

I have one. i have since removed the front built in bi-pod and replaced with the compact fore-end. I have also put on the AR style pistol grip stock. With that stock it still does fold but it not very much. I use LAR15 mags as well as PMAGS and both work fine. the mags that come from the factory with it in my experience were junk. Over all i love mine. Currently i have it out at DLASK gettin the barrel threaded and a compensator installed. My red-dot just got here in the mail today for it as well. I will post pictures of it once i get it back and all together.

To those that would tell you to save up for a different rifle that you dont need to upgrade... that is an option but for people like myself who have a hard time saving up enough for A tavor or XCR, It has allowed me to get a rifle that i find to be fun, and functional. piece by piece. At the end of the day, Haters gonna Hate. everyone has their opinion. Its too bad you arent in the lower mainland or you could come and try mine out before investing the money.

I like the way it folds up. You removed the bipod. Is it crap?

I don't shoot mine alot, then again I don't seem to be shooting any of my guns very much, that being said i love my su16 :)

I need to get around to replacing that bipod/front grip setup with a normal fore-end one of these days.

The one drawback i found was the whole scope & bolt cleaning issue where the bolt on removal contacts a normal sized scope.

I ended up mounting a leupold vx2 1-4x20 scope and the bolt clears it fine so no more scope removal, granted that's not an issue if you were going to run a red dot.

Love mine. Have had it for 2 years now and it's been solid. I have a 3-9x42 bullet drop scope on it (secifically made for .223) on a quick release riser and you can actually leave the scope on the rifle and disassemble for cleaning.
