KelTec SU16A restricted or not?

18.5" or 470mm. Almost but not quite. Of course, the CFC barrel measurement system is to use a rod to determine the length from breechface to muzzle face. Who knows what the barrel length is if measured this way.
 
They are interested. I have spoken to them several times. But they will not make anything special just for us. Too much work for them to chane the jigs, etc for the barrels.
 
Yes, that's what they said when I asked them.
The bolt head locks into a barrel extension. The breech face will therefore be set back from the barrel face. If the actual barrel is 18.4", the length according to the CFC method could be longer. I wonder if anyone in their shop would be prepared to take 5 minutes with a rod and tape to check.

This answer would be a very simple one if any of the verifiers on this site would have a look on their CD.
Yeah, I know they have not been re-issued in ages, but at least we can find the old info.
And yes, I also know the content is supposed to be confidential and all that, but informing the firearms owners shouldn't be such a big crime.

I always wondered why the CFC is so secretive about the info on those discs and create this atmosphere of bull####, fear and mystery.
 
Barrel length is listed as 467mm, same as manufacturers spec. on their website. But was this number based on an actual measurement made according to the procedure used by the CFC? The mfr. may have listed the length of the actual piece of steel, not the breech face to muzzle face dimension.
For example the face to face barrel length of a Lee Enfield is perhaps 70 thousandths longer than the actual length of the piece of steel screwed into the receiver.
 
They will likely go by the factory spec if given. The rod method is for verifiers in the field. The techs will use real tools and check against the manufacturers spec if they are shorter they go with that.

As it stands, the rifle is classed as 'restricted' due to barrel length. The actual FRT page has been posted in the past on this topic.

Thanks......hopefully it is due to manufactured posted specs.


Maybe it just needs to be measured correctly. Ya never know.

Guess it's time to take the wraps off this then...

The change on their website is due to AEI working with Kel-Tec to bring their product to Canada, including the SU-16A as a non-restricted rifle. They told us on Friday they would update the website and other marketing materials, I admit I wasn't expecting a change that quickly! :D.

Keep your fingers crossed for no hangups.

This is going to do very well on the Canadian market. Hope they decide to make a post-AWB version with a more standard folding method.

I think it will sell well. We went down to FL and did shakedown of the rifle, they work fine.

There will not be a post-AWB version, The fact that it can't fire collapsed is part of the reason the DOS has issued export permits. It's a hunting rifle, not 'tactical' rifle.

Dealer samples will be heading out as soon the RCMP have issued new certs.

I'll post a link to the website on Tues.
