So here is my problem,I have been playing around with Ken Waters load data, recreating and reviewing his info on a verity of calibers..One set of data for 308 win gives data of 41.0 grs of h322 and a 168 gr match.I figure I would load 20 rds and give it a try. After finishing I had a gut feeling of that info, and when I looked into it,h332 is more for light bullets.....schit,dam it,fubge....His info is pretty good, but this one makes me go hummmm...

Anyone want to enlighten me or slap me.......

You'll be surprised sometimes what will work and what won't. In my 300 Win mag I once seen load data for IMR 4320. Now this is a powder you would not associate with a 300 Win mag. Yet 56 grs of this with a 168 Sierra match gets me .675" five shot groups at 100 yrds In fact I can't match this accuracy in my rifle with any other powder. In my 25/06 I once seen a loading containing Varget. Again another powder which wouldn't be associated with the 25/06. Again I worked up to the 41 gr load I read about with a 117 Sierra Game king and got 3/4" five shot groups at 100 yds. Mind you velocity in both calibers was down, but accuracy was great. Sometime you just have to give something a try. Ken Water knew what he was doing.

There are people who just load for max speed, and those that load for accuracy with enough speed.
Hogdon lists 41grs as max with 155gr bullet. I would not be scared off with a 13gr heavier bullet.

You'd be suprised all the powders that used to be listed for our favourite calibers in loading manuals of the past that aren't in any of the current manuals. Some of its marketing, some of its technology advancing and some of it is just manuals cutting back on the # of loads listed so the book doesn't continue to get bigger and bigger.

The numbers actually look pretty good with this recipe - 97% case fill; 100% propellant burn; 34.6% ballistic efficiency BUT, Pmax is 61,645 psi.

Below is the data that QuickLOAD generates based on the following specific criteria:
cartridge: .308 Winchester
bullet: 168 gr Hornady BTHP Match (1.225")
case trim length: 2.005"
case capacity (overflow): 55.0 gr H2O
COL: 2.800"
powder: 41.0 gr H322
barrel: 22"
crimp: none

I would never load this recipe without working up as it is very near the SAAMI Pmax of 62,000 psi.
imho start at about 38.5 gr and work up from there...
