A search brings up some mentions but no threads...considering buying these but north of $650/pr I am wondering if anybody has some first hand experience with them in rough country....

i had a pair of the kenetreks. wore those for a few years . mine were the taller boot model .very comfortable .leather was a bit on the soft side .im now just breaking in my new scarpa boots.

They are closer to $725 / pr now a days!!! I had a pair lasted 3 years wore out like the rest of them. Went with the Cabelas Meindels Alskan hunters and couldn't be happier! Great boot and have a lifetime warranty through Cabelas. Stiff boot and wears well...no break in time at all!

Just working through the same exercise myself. The Kenetreks are Italian made whereas the Meindls are German. In my experience Italian lasts tend to be narrower than the German ones. Based on your avatar I'll add - for me Alpinestar boots run too narrow, which are Italian. The Kenetrek Canadian distributor is located in my hometown and a visit to try them on proved the same situation. Too narrow for my EEE flippers.

In the end I went with Cabela's Meindls - the Denali for non-insulated scouting and early season treks and the Alaskan Hunter for steeper terrain elk efforts. Fit is good for me, durability will be determined as these are still too fresh to condem or applaud.

Take that for what it's worth as fit is everything and your feet aren't the same as anyone else's. Neither brand would be a mistake if they fit you feet.

Two things to add

1. The two pair of Cabela's Meindls came in about the same cost as one pair of Kenetreks would have been.

2. My wife wears a pair of the Kenetreks and for her feet of normal proportions the fit is perfect. She likes them. They are supportive but not overly stiff once broken in.

Try Hanwag.....amazing boots with lots of options for ankle height as well as rigidity. My current pair is 8 years old and will likely go several more. They're more like 400 bucks per pair vs the 750 you mentioned.

I have a pair of the kenetrek hard tactical boots for work and find them Very comfortable and have lasted me about 5 winters. I also have a pair of the mountain extremes, good boots, fit a bit narrower then the hard tacticals. Had them about the same time. When I bought them I got them out of the US on sale with a strong dollar. Iam happy with mine but in todays market I think there are just as good boots available for less.

if you know some one who has a pair see if you can try them out ,i found them to be very very stiff ,hard to break in ,i guess they never fit my feet.i wore them in streams meany times and walked them dry trying to get them to form to my foot, but it didnt work for me nice boot
I bought a pair of LOwa and coudnt be happier

My wife and I both have mountain extremes and love them. Light, grippy, supportive. Not so cheap.....
Hiking down a mountain in Ireland after dark with two dead deer on my back and no flashlight I was pretty happy to have the high ankle support.

You don't need the boots, you need more experience... next time, walk the deer down the hill and make them "dead" at the bottom.
