Has any of the long range shooters had a chance to use this? Any concerns or feedback? Is it worth having everything in one and just using a laser for range or should I keep the Kestrel seperate (regular 4500) to allow upgrades to the ballistic programs (Iphone).

This new Kestrel is an amazing piece of kit and in my opinion worth every penny
We brought back several from SHOT this year as soon as we were educated about them by the Horus fellow who designed the program.
The capabilities are astounding to say the least and to have real time firing solutions that have ALL the variables worked out is what I like about it.
It does take some work to get up to speed with it, folks who are more computer literate than I would have an easier time with it, but at this point with messing with 1 for a few months am impressed with what it can do.

If you preload the rifle and ammo stats (saved in memory) and use range as the only external variable, is it a turn on and type the range and send it type of setup? If you face the target will it account for direction of travel? How fast can you enter the range?

I assume that when you have it loaded with you favorite rifle and ammo info then the work is done? How good is the screen for reading the numbers?

Thanks for the feedback!

With the preloaded info just turn on the unit and the last range and wind is on the screen with the MOA adjusments for both. To change distance, highlight the distance and hold the button, you can go from 100yards to 1000 in 6 seconds. For a differnt rifle, change the selected firearm and go to the next scren and there is your data. I'll post or etonight when I have it in front of me. I had this out on Saturday and it made the 1050 yard shots easy to compensate with the changeing wind and get hit after hit.

No Need, I have Knights Bullet flght program for my I-phone and hardly use it anymore (Its a great program though). The Kestrel however lets me customize my ballistics and data to match my actual rifles results. Eg. if the data says to come up 4.5MOA at 500 yards and your still .7 MOA low when you shoot. The program lets you "flex" the program so that next shot will be on target. It takes some time and various ranges to get it on to match your rifle - less than 1 day and your all done. It does not make shooting long range idiot proof, but it makes 1st round hits at long ranges much easier.

I was almost sold on a standard 4000 but with the 6 sec time frame to key in ranges it can't be all bad to use:p Going to have to consider retiring the iphone. Great to have some feedback, Thanks ATR and Spyderfire1

Hi,

There is one interesting feature: we can specify multiple BC based on distance "BC-Dist Table".
In the Bryan Litz book there are specification on 225 bullets and it includes BC based on velocity table.

What is best way to convert BC-Velocity to BC-Distance table?

Thanks,
Viktor.
