Just cause of all the chassis, uber-cool rifles that are now popping up, I thought I would drag out an old lady. Sure she doesn't have an M4 carbine/Magpul PRS stock. So what if she comes from a time when Remington wanted to protect all of us with a super long throat and borderline Detachable Bottom Magazine (at least she doesn't have a J-Lock)! She was the original the tacticool PRS. Dudes on here used to sport a t-shirt extolling her virtues! I guess she has moved on with all of the other fads, I don't care though she is still a pretty lady.





Remington 700 Light Tactical Rifle DM. Badger Ordnance Steel 20 MOA base. Timney Trigger (Yay! No shooting my hunting buddy!) Switched the hockey puck recoil pad out for a limbsaver and sent the stock to be re-finished by HS Precision to Olive Drag/Black Splash, Leupold PRW rings with a M5 LR/T FFP scope. According to the barrel code on Remington's webpage she was manufactured in 2005 (11 years old) which I think is very close to the year of introduction. She shoots very well typically grouping under 1 MOA even with the ridiculous jump into the lands. Anyone else running an oldie?
 
Old school is cool!
Still a good day to take out a 'stock' rifle that shoots well....I enjoy that as much as shooting the high dollar rigs.
The LTR is still a great rifle....had a .308 of the same vintage that shot incredible, have a .223 LTR and a few varmint models that shoot good as well.
Now just need a mint wooden stock Varmint Special in .308!
 
LTR is my backup business rifle. I shoots great. Only work done to it is a recessed crown, Badger bolt knob, R3 limbsaver and an extended mag.

Going to swap out trigger for a Trigger Tech.

I like some of the chassis systems however an AR stock on a precision bolt action doesn't knock me out.

I have an early 90's vintage Varmint special in 7mm-08. It wears a Weaver V-16 in Redfield rings and bases.
It was the first center fire Rifle I ever bought myself in my early 20's and is still one of my favorites! The only thing I've done to it was free float the barrel and smooth up the trigger a bit.

I actually took it out this year for whitetail season.

I shoot an old Winchester Heavy Varmint .308 in FTR. It currently sits in an used McMillan, has a Jewell trigger, and is topped by a similarily aged MK 4 3.5-10. The darn thing shoots great, bore barely fouls and misses are operator error. It even still sports two piece bases! I tried buying a Near, one piece base but it has an odd screw spacing and he wasn't able to find his drawings last time I checked.

Just yesterday, I was considering a NF 5.5-22 scope as upgraded glass would really help to see the bull and steer the rounds? I am the limiting factor though.
 
Nice gun op.

But when I think old school it's shooting prone with a sling, irons and something like this.




And even then that gun is only from the early 70s ☺ My 1923 Swedish FSR match rifle is super old school I guess.
