-30 is nice weather. Mind you, the only thing that causes me to enjoy hot weather is the lack of clothing the wife sports around the house

... the springfields work fine ... my Norinco M305 failed on me ... still haven't brought it out again

Perhaps not dry of all 'summer' lubrication?
The only reason I say this, is because this lubrication problem, caused my Tanker .308 to fail to cycle subsequent rounds, at the same temp's in Northern Alberta.

I don't think I had the rifle completely clean ... my Norinco M305 firing pin didn't strike the primer so I'm figuring it froze up ... plus the open sights were full of snow my friend Kyle said ... so I threw him my Springfield which is scoped and he went off and got his Umingmak(muskox). We hunt in colder weather too ...

how many pounds/kilos are those Umingmak on the hoof. I ask because i think it's pretty cool you northerners are out huntin with M1A type rifle instead of 45 70's, 338 mags and the like. I'll be headin north (ish) for moose with my USGI-ized norc in a lil under 2 weeks

On opening day, I got a 4 point Mule Deer at around 120 yds with mine.
So that makes one moose, one deer with my m-305 with, Arms 18 mount, Leupold Rifleman 3x9 scope and Spectre 3 point sling ( IMO the Spectre 3 point sling is the greatest invention in history, as it means you can carry the very heavy rifle with only one, or even no hands.)

your guess would be as good as mine- but there ain't a lot "game' in the middle east- draw your own conclusions-i've got one that i swear as never issued( trw) one that's ok and one that's beat all to heck as far as the stock is concerned-that's the one with the notches- and it's a springfield-
i built one of the isreali CA M14 rifles onto a norc receiver for a buddy..... well, i've done this for about a dozen buddies now but this particular one i mention, which unfortunately was not mine hehehe...... took a very nice, mature bull moose and a whopper of a black bear on my recent hunting trip to 7-28 in b.c. . Both kills were with 168gr(165?) winnie silvertips and were one shot/one kill, moose at 175yrds, bear at 125 yrds. I'll bug him for pics to add later.
I was also carrying my M21 equivalent (norc receiver with all NM tuned usgi parts) but alas.... my rifle only dropped a target or two
