Killing ... how do you feel ...

In my pre-teens, I had a pellet gun. I'd go after small birds, once in a while I'd get one and felt very sorry.
Caribou- get a happy feeling we are going to be eat the best stuff for a week or 2.
If the caribou has some fat, I start to feel my mouth watering :)

I'm always pretty excited when I harvest any animal. I get a sense of accomplishment. However the one that I'll never forget was my first deer archery. I had hunted for quite a few years and tried to remember everything I had learned. Then that morning finally arrived. I saw a nice buck ,6 pointer, walking near a trail that crosses another one. I had sat there for many an hour in previous seasons. Well that morning when the buck showed up my heart was pounding. Then it walked away. So I made a few grunts and waited. I was on the ground behind an oak tree. Well not 5 minutes later it showed up and walked right in front of me maybe 20 yards. I pulled the bow string and shot. The buck bolted. I didn't know if I had hit it or not. So as the book says , wait for at least 20 minutes. I did. Then I walked over to where it had walked. Couldn't find any blood nor the arrow....then I found the arrow. Holy sh!t. It was covered in blood. Then I looked away about 5 yards ...and I saw a blood trail...I mean a blood trail...like someone cut a brake line. AND there he was about 75 yards away. Well that was when I jumped for joy and couldn't help myself. Finally, I got a deer....and a buck to boot. I'm sure if anyone was near they would have heard me. To me that was an accomplishment. Now I don't hunt archery anymore and when our group gets one , believe me I am much more subdued. That archery buck was and still is my biggest hunting thrill.

I sometimes feel some remorse sometimes but also joy at having good meat. If I kill it I have to eat it. Respect for the animal. Its the way of all life. We have to consume resources to live. As long as I eat meat I will prefer to kill my own meat. Good/Bad both fire at the same time. I really feel respectful when I eat game and I truly love wild meat

For those who feel they do not want the animal to suffer why would you shoot it in the first place. No animal wants to give up there lives for you so why say a prayer and thank him after the fact.Humane and hunting do not exist neither does humane and farming!

I shot my first deer some 39 years ago, I've killed more farm animals and big game animals, than I care to remember...I know a thing or two about killing and how it feels...and at no time would I say that killing is a thing to celebrate! Haveing thought long and hard about my joy of a successful hunt I have come to the understanding that it is the accomplishment of all the hard work, time and effort that has been put into a hunt, that I jump for joy and celebrate with my hunting partners, not the kill...The kill always gives me pause to feel a little sadness for the animal taken.

No,those that think the animals they shoot are not suffering because they use a gun are mistaken. If I was concerned, which I am not, I would not Hunt in the first place.
Feeling sad for the animal is wasted emotion,if you really care don't shoot. There is no such thing as a humane kill. Many birds we shoot at fly away, many mammals flop and roll around till death.
I am a hunter have killed many animals,I am saying there is no humane killings,we like to hide behind our supposed ethical style of killing which does not exist!(ibtl)Every time we take an animal it causes pain and suffering.

I don't kill for sport, but it's hard not to get caught up in the thrill and adrenaline of the hunt. I hunt moose when in season and with the luck of the draw. I feel lucky when I bag my animal and thankful that the good lord has provided such a majestic creature to help feed my family and myself.

I live to hunt but am very concerned with causing suffering. I try to kill as cleanly as possible. If I wasn't concerned with suffering, I would consider myself an azzzhole

If you have compassion for hunted animals you would not hunt!"Perhaps you are mistaking compassion for remorse over killing an animal?

I get excited when I see the pray, then I get focused, blood starts pumping, heart rate goes up, every thing I have taught myself falls into place, then the shot. Is it good.....yes....its down.

After that its just JERKY.

35 years for Archery....now I hunt with a Rifle. TOO easy.:D

Cheers :sniper:
