Killing ... how do you feel ...

Most of any killing I've done is due to keeping our chickens safe, and keeping our property from being destroyed. I do it and move on. No point in thinking to hard about it. I'm sure mr. coyote doesn't ponder why he just ate your cat.

Sometimes though I get excited. First deer me and my uncle got, I had the adrenaline just pumping hard. Felt good. Was very excited over the little chase that took place.
Oddly I shot a rat in the barn once, only rat I ever shot, and I felt a great sense of accomplishment as well. Even I thought that was weird. But I really hate rats and squirrels. They destroy so much, even if they are kind of cute.

I always felt good after a kill, be it deer, goose, duck, coyote etc.

I also felt very lucky and thankful for the opportunity. I've never felt any regret or guilt over it. I look at it this way, if we weren't supposed to kill, then every animal on earth would be vegetarian.

Respect for the animal, the life that I have taken and nature. Happy at the same time… We are hunters and survivors after all

I feel very mixed emotions. I am proud of what I accomplished, excited, full of adenaline. But for the few minutes, sad for the creature that died. Same for fishing too, Just as I'm gonna fillet it....

I figure I do the best I can at making a humane kill, so there's no point dwelling on the negative. Life's got enough bummer moments without taking the joy out of fishing or hunting.

I get a rush of adrenaline and a big goofy grin on my face at first but by the time I field dress and get to work I am subdued.
I like to watch hunting videos and it always pisses me off when the animal isnt treated with some respect after death. Guys sitting on em, pretending to ride them and that kind of crap.

You can bet your ass Im happy but yet a little sad as well , most of the time take I collect my thoughts and go up to the animal say sorry and go about my business with a smile on my face ;)

oh yeah I'm a big time liberal with a CPC membership....

Undo us from the inside? :p

I just find that people who say harvest are trying to sanitise what hunting actually is. You harvest a field not a deer. You KILL a deer.

Saying you harvest is just another way of appeasing people who can't be appeased.

As someone once said " I am a Hunter and I apologize to no-one".
Thats how I feel any way, latte sipping, granola crunching, save the seals folks and out of touch with reality. Don't pander to their weak mindedness.

I have got go the piont that the pursuit is more enjoyable than the kill.I enjoyed helping my wife get her first carbou this year than shooting 1 more for the wall.In the end i think thats what its all about, passing on what you know and helping others experiece the highs and lows that come with hunting. Not killing. As lots of people can kill, only hunters really know whats really about. Not to say that i dont still enjoy looking for the monsters but now that the wife is meat hunting,it gives me a goods reason to spend time with my brother and buds. The main reason to go out is to spend time with friends and family and enjoy yourself.Meat is a bonus.A big one is a extra bonus.

I feel recoil. Don't kid yourself, if a partridge had it's way it would kill you and everyone you care about. Nothing but ice in my veins.

Interesting replies and thoughts on Killing. I like how it's different for everyone, yet quite similiar in the end.

That may be for you and your family/friends, however it's about diet for me ... ;)

What iam trying to say is for the trip getting something is a bonus. It is always about diet for almost everyone i know in the north.I kill a Moose ,caribou, and most years a sheep for their meat. The killing is not the best part of the trip, but i dont buy beef and only eat wild meet except chicken and some pork.My wife who grew up in the city and never ate wild meat before i met her will not eat beef anymore except if we go out for dinner at friends. It makes me laugh when she says beef is like cardboard.Anyways if you eat meat something had to die.It is better if you know where it came from.
