Kimber 1911 Stainless?

Did a search- not much came up.

Anyways, what's the generalization from board members when someone brings up a Kimber 1911? I'm thinking of making it a project gun.

well.. from what i was told... the kimber II series is not as good as the old school I series...

Ive shot a kimber II stainless target 9mm and it was still beautiful
 
Early pistols had a great reputation. Current production have had some less than stellar reviews on the Brian Enos forum and Subguns.

The comment that struck me was from a storefront FFL in Florida.

He shipped two new pistols back to the distributor as soon as he checked them into inventory. The guns were backordered so the distributor had shipped them out as soon as they arrived from the factory. They arrived rusted.

When he contacted the factory, he was told that it must be the humid Florida air. That the guns had started the week in New York didn't register.

After two more similar incidents in a short period, he and the other stocking dealer in town took down the Kimber banners and stopped carrying the guns.

The theme among a number of the negative complaints was poor QC in recent examples. WHile a large number of past purchasers expressed support, I didn't notice a large number of recent purchasers chiming in with raves.

The theme seemed to be that Kimber was in a race with Para for advertizing space and not QC.
 
Yikes! Checked out the price tag. I thought I was looking at a $800-$900 1911.
Apparently not.
And finally, here's a question to derail the conversation from the topic: Any stainless 1911's out there in the $800-$900 range? I'm looking for a good quality, and none of this Norc crap. Its sad enough I have a Norc shotty...
 
I have a kimber stainless target in 9mm and its a great pistol,one of the nicest out of the box pistols I have ever owned.
I am no Norinco fan but....their .45 pistol is a gem in the rough a great value for the money

You should look long and hard at the brand new Ruger SR1911...

It's being compared in quality to guns that are much more expensive. Reviews are saying it's good at any price. And yet...guys here are buying them for as little as $750 or less...in Canada...in Canadian dollars!

I'll be aiming for one of them myself sometime this year.
 
I have a SS TLE Custom II and the .22LR conversion kit back in October last year. It's a beautiful gun and absolutely no physical or operational issues. If you do decide to get one for yourself you will not be dissapointed.

Everyone should own at least one 1911. :D

Pay the extra money for the kimber.

First 1911 i bought was a Para LTC in 9mm, AMAZING reviews out of the states, yeah i said it amazing lol, i bought it and i kinda went WTF were those idiots thinking on the reviews, 50 rounds in the metal on the slide started to wear, the finish wore right away aswell. I was 1000 bucks in on that POS.

Last yea i got a Kimber eclipse target II, i spend the money on it and its well worth it, over double the rounds i put through the para, no wear no problems no jams, no damaged brass.

Spending the extra now will save u in the long run, if you want a quality pistol.
 
Kimber, although for a project i might take a serious look at the ruger, more towards the OP's expected price.

That said, my Stainless II in 9mm is awesome. i love it, fit finish are amazing and shoots well.
 
I love my stainless target II. I believe shooter arms has a new stainless probably More in your price range. cambamboom. Do you have pics of your Kimber? I've been trying to make mine a little more pretty with black accents.
 
The lower end $1000 Kimbers are no better quality than guns in the $700 range. Their really good ones are $1500 and up.
 
I have a Kimber Team Match II in 9 mm and it is an absolute tack driver! When I first got it, it had some extractor issues but a bit of tuning and a few other touch-ups it works perfectly.
