Hello all,

I am looking into getting a Kimber. Most likely the Stainless TLEII. Just looking on some insight of these versus other 1911's I was going to go for Para to support our economy but now that they are no longer made in Canada I don't really care for them.

Thanks in advance.

Also any thoughts on .45 vs 9mm or .40cal 1911s? I have 2 other 9mm handguns and a 9mm carbine as well so I am thinking it might be wise to stick to one caliber, then again I also shot a .40 and of course .45 is the way the gun was intended to be.

i have the same taste for 1911.isnt it a perfect finish??

it's my next purchase, sporteque has one...mméhéhé...in 40 would be nice.

I've shot 1911's in all three calibers as well. And if this will be a regular and frequent shooter then you may want to stick with the 9mm, .40 or strongly consider reloading. The off the shelf .45 will add up in a hurry.

All three calibers have a different feel but of them all the .45 is the one I like best. It's got a soft but strong recoil that pushes strongly but doesn't kick. Lots of folks say this sort of observation isn't valid but a lot of .45 shooters agree that the subsonic rounds from the 1911 do have a different feel than the supersonic ones from the 9mm and .40. I noticed it right away without being prompted by anyone so I'm a believer.

Besides, you can FEEL the testosterone flushing through your system when you load up those thumb size rounds. The tip of the pinky like 9mm just doesn't stir the soul in the same way.

of the three calibers, the .40 is the one showing the highest pressures at 38,000 psi.

9mm is closer to 33,000 and the 45 is the lowest 21,000 to 25,000psi, that is the deal, that's why the .45 recoil more than muzzle kick.

this is the advantage of a heavy pistol, less of kicking-recoil felt.

Kimber is a good piece of kit. I ended up selling mine for a CF special edition Para and I liked the Kimber slightly more. I found that the finish wore off the safety lever and the pin on the adjustable sight like to sneak out a bit. Besides those two issues it was a crack shot and it did not have any stoppages.

i was at the guy shop checking out the kimber TLE2. it felt absolutly amazing comparing to the entery models like para GI.
But one thing i notice is that it also weight considerable lighter too. So i am wondering how is the recoil then? anyone have experience on both?

The first time I handled a Kimber SIS, I went straight home and sold my Para P14.45 Limited to a friend who'd been asking me about it for months - then took the cash, went back to P+D Enterprises, and bought the Kimber.

And I have ZERO regrets.

So, if you need a direct comparison from someone who's owned both, take my advice and go get that Kimber TEN times before you buy a Para.

If they were still Canadian-made, then great - but now that they're not, screw 'em.

We'll go to Al Simmons on a day off and Tim and I will both sucker you into buying one :)

Wish I had the funds for one...definately on the list for when I do!

I've owned 2 Springfields, a Colt '70 series, a Colt '80 series, a Para Ltd, and a Kimber Custom Target II. Only have the Kimber left....don't miss any of the others.
