I had the chance to handle Kimber pistol (custom11) 4-5 yrs ago, and I was really impressed with the quality especially the slide/frame/bbl fit. the finish was average nothing special. And then a few weeks ago thanks to the Liberal I was entertaining of getting one, I checked one of the stacking dealer and he showed me couple of units, the finish was great, but I was very very dissapointed by the fit of the slide and frame. did not expect what I saw, I dont know if all Kimber pistols are fitted that way nowadays, slide and frame are loose alomost the same as Paras. the models that I check was the CUSTOM 11, 2 compact models the steele and alum frame. will try STI trojan, hope I will not be dissapointed.

I have been very happy with my Kimbers, and fit and finish are excellent, and recently I got to examine some compact pistols at Target Sports, and I was still impressed with those pistols, basing it on price and all the extra's received when purchasing the Kimbers, a friend down south owns a large gun store and rental range and the Kimbers keep on chugging along, incuding sales for concealed carry.

the kimbers i've handled had a really good fit(tight) and finish... note that they've also come down in price for the new year....

Ditto here - both of my Kimbers are tight, as is my Trojan...

What kind of play did you notice ? Just general "looseness" or side to side play or front to back ?

I had the chance to see the ones at Target sports all 3 models, I guess we have different definitions of tight and good fit. Was comparing the Kimber that I handled before, that was dead tight not even a little play at all and its the kind of fit Im looking for..

Still a bit confused.... I just played with my guns again and both of my Kimbers have only the SMALLEST of the small amount of play and in both cases, it is side to side and in both cases, the amount of play is such that for the life of me, I cannot see the movement (I can barely feel it, let alone see it). The STI has just a touch more, again no visible movement, but a tad more "feel" than the Kimbers. All three guns have less play than an older custom 1911 I have.

Also, the Kimbers are of different ages and models (Tactical Pro II, ext extractor, compact model VS Stainless Target, int extractor, 5in model). My STI is also a 5in model, as is my custom 1911.
