Kimber .22LR Converstion Kit

When I bought my Kimber Conversion kit, I bought 14 different types of .22 ammo and chronoed it as I was looking for a round that worked flawlessly and had enough juice to take down small steel reactive targets out to 65m. CCI Stinger fits the bill for my requirements. The Manual with the kit recommends hyper velocity ammo.

I have just over 10 thousand rounds through my Kimber kit over the last year and a half or so. After breaking it in with some high velocity stuff (yellow jackets, stingers, mini mags) I've run nothing but Winchester (333 or 555) and Federal 525 bulk ammo. I personally wouldnt have a 22 kit that ONLY ran on hyper velocity .22, spending 8-10 bucks for hyper velocity .22 is encroaching dangerously into 9mm prices. I use my .22 top end for more structured practice on my classic division gun though(mostly just draws, or trigger control, transition accuracy), I dont plink with it much. The only thing Id recommend to anybody to get their .22 top end to run smoother on a .45 frame is to change to a 19lb mainspring. Still 100 percent reliable with .45 and requires less effort to cycle with your deuce deuce.

Federal 525 bulk is the only cheap ammo that will function in any of my auto's, rifle or pistol. And that includes 2 kimber kits, a sig, a glock and a kadet kit.

I've run Rem Golden Bullets and CCI Blazer in mine. It ran perfect with Blazer. I get faliure to battery with Golden Bullet, but it shoot a big more accurate and clean.

Wow that's a lot of help guys thanks. Everyone seems to shoot something different and have good results. I know Kimber recommends the CCI Mini-Mags/Stingers but like SlimJim said that gets pricey. Maybe I will see how the Fed 525 Bulk goes through her and if it's having trouble try to break it in with some CCI Mini-Mags.

Thanks for the help gents.

I'm going to follow this up. I'm several hundred rounds later worth of Golden Bullets and they have been a PITA!
Constant failures to battery. Hah, too bad, that Bucket-O-Bullets was a good price. I'm thinking I'm going to get over it and just buy some other ammo for it and jsut call it a loss with the Golden Bullets. Well, not a total loss, I know my savage Mark2 loves the Goldens, but I rarely shoot it anymore.

My buddy picked me up a brick of American Eagle. They didn't work well at all. I know they are not high velocity but in some cases I would be getting 7-8 stopages. Looks like I will be trying some Federal and CCI next.
