I am looking for a new .45 and am thinking that I want a Kimber. They have a .22 conversion kit available for their 1911's for a few browns. Does anyone have experience with these? Are the pistols accurate with the conversion installed? Good quality parts? I would assume so, Kimber seems to have decent quality overall. I have an old Ruger Mark I .22, and would like a different alternative for shooting .22 auto.

The Kimber 22 conversion kit is rated very highly.
They used to outsource them but for a while now they have been making their own.

Quite accurate, very well made & obviously cheap to shoot.
Very good choice.

I have one and I am pleased with its accuracy and reliability. As per Kimber's instructions, you will need to use high velocity ammunition in order to make the gun cycle properly. Also, be aware that the slide is not designed to hold open after the last shot. I think that you will be pleased.

The Kimber 45 with 22 conversion, what model would that be? Stainless steel? How much are they going for?

i wish the slide was designed to stay open, i wonder why they cant make it do that, even the .22lr full pistols they sell dont do it

I believe that it has something to do with the aluminum slide wear that would occur if it had to catch on the slide stop. I may have the above scenario wrong; however, I do believe that it has something to do with the aluminum to steel contact and the difference in hardness between the slide and the frame.
