So I have here a Kimber 8400 mountain ascent that I was asked to mount a scope on for a friend. Well the rings someone sold him are for a 30mm tube. The scope is a Swarovski with a 1” tube and a 50mm objective.

Wouldn’t be my choice, but it’s not mine.

The rings he was sold are Talley LW 30mm in I am assuming high. They would work if it was for a 1” tube. Anyways what ring and height would you suggest, I have my preferences, what are yours.

Are high rings the only option or will this big objective work with mediums on this rifle? I wish I could try both but that probably won’t be an option in this situation.

I wish I had some of the ring options I used to have around here, but no longer do…

Most ring manufacturers list their height from receiver to bottom of base. I always set up the rifle in the gun vice, place gauge blocks on the receiver, and then rest the scope on top. And then measure what you’re using for gauge blocks. I guess if you don’t have gauge blocks you could use a stack of washers, and then measure the stack of washers after the scope is at the height you want it. I always have my bell of the objective lens as close to the barrel as possible.

I’d see if S&K mediums would work.

That would be my choice. But I don’t have any to try, I dd at one time but don’t anymore. Could be an expensive experiment if they won’t work. And it’s not my money or rifle.

I really don’t want to be wasting a lot of my time with this. Asking so I can find the quickest, easiest solution.
