So has anyone else picked up an 84L Montana now that they are finally on this side of the border?

My 06 showed up today and so far I am very impressed. Went through it last night from top to bottom and everything is perfect. Tuned the trigger to a crisp 2.5#'s, mounted an older M8 6X Leupold on it for now. Should be able to run 60 or 70 rounds through it this up coming weekend if time allows to smooth it out.

I will post the results when I get some old brass fire formed and some decent loads done up. If it shoots anything like my 84M in 257 Bob I will be a happy camper :)

I am green with envy! haha ;)

The 84L Montana sure is good looking rifle. I look forward to the reports...

Ohhh, I'm so close to just picking one up....what does it actually weight with the 6x on board Dave? I'm trying to justify the $ for changing from the origianl 308 up to the 30-06 84L...it's only $

Congrats on the score.
I will be following this thread closely. I was considering a Sako 85 Finnlight in 06 but your Kimber is about a pound lighter and priced much better .
Looks like it will trump the Sako.

Well congrats Davey. I betcha that thing'll shoot like a scattergun and bounce off muledeer if the intranet gurus have anything to say about it.

Heck of a gun for the eastslopes man!

You could always just get a Stevens 200 for ~$300 and screw on a $400 Shilen/Kireger/whatever chambered in .280 AI and be at the range in no time.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1.....

Damn you devil troll :D

I hear tell theres gonna be 35 Whelens...too bad they didnt go .338-06 AI :(

Well then, in addition to the above noted custom Stevens 200, you could order up a .338-06AI barrel and you'd have a sweet switch barrel! You wound need to make up a nice carrying case, something similar to what Holland & Holland supplied for their t/d bolt action rifles. Plus, in order to help with the recoil, because as you know the Stevens 200 wears a hockey puck (perhaps its only flaw) you could order up a nice leather covered recoil pad - in red of course.

Wow. I just read my post and I never thought I'd see "Stevens 200", "Holland & Holland" and "leather covered recoil pad" in one paragraph.

You need help :D

I could make a nice carrying case from a Plano case...sew some nice blue work shirt material over the foam...would be quite elegant.
