Kimber 84L Montana

BTT....how's this gun doing Dave? Inquiring minds want to know:D
My Classic should be waiting for me when I get home

It is fast becoming a favorite for sure. I haven't had the greatest weather for testing loads but I did get a chance to shoot a few shots in the drizzle last Sunday morning at my 200 yard gong. 56g of IMR4350 behind 180g Nosler BT's seems to shoot pretty darn good, 5 shots came up with a 1 1/2" group. Not my bullet of choice, just using them up.

Tomorrow or the next day I might start shooting my 180g Partition loads and see how it does... Still deciding on optics for this one. Just picked up and 6x42 FXIII from rem338win that just might fit nicely, or maybe not ;)

that's the scope that will be riding on my Classic as well

Love reading up on these! Im really thinking about a Select in .280. If I ever come accross one with a pretty stick I just may be too lovestruck to walk away. Glad to hear the Kimber Gremlins are going away...

Here is your pic rem338win:

I will post a better one once I get the S&K's and the FXII mounted, probably next week. Had a chance to put the 84L up against the older 8400 last week, what a difference. I think Kimber finally got it right with the "L".

The 180g Partitions are shooting awesome and that will be my fall back on load for everything. I am now moving on to 168g TSX's and will post the results...

I've gotta admit, I haven't being paying attention to Kimber's lineup. I just went to their site to check on your rifle's specs, and frankly I wonder how you ever got past those wood stocked rifles. Wow! Anyway Dave, that rifle looks like a sweetheart. But seeing that I'm looking for a reason not to get one, so what kind of magazine does it have? I don't see a floorplate release and I hope its not a blind magazine. Nice shot on the coyote by the way; always figured a Ballistic Tip was a varmint bullet.

Plan for an open-sighted pack/truck gun

Don't forget saddle ;). And yes, it is funny how that happened. I bet if I needed another stainless/synthetic lightweight sporter that shot like a lazer beam it would have shot patterns like a shotgun.

Oh well, whats one more gun in the safe, well maybe two ;)

Edit:

Decided on optics and rings, went with S&K's and and FXII 6x36 with the LR reticle.

Nugget has just taken possession of his little 84L in 280 AI. And to think he was going to keep his s/s win 70 7 mag instead. Egads!
It has the upgraded lumber and looks pretty good far as I can tell thru a cracked iPhone screen. Will try to post some pics eventually but uploading just ain't no fun anymore.

Picked up a Montana 84L in 280 AI.
A big thanks to crazy davey for the review and PM's, which basically made up my mind !! (it better not be a lemon cou: )

Just mounted scope, etc. Looks to be a very nice rifle, some very positive changes from the 8400 models. The stock is much slimmer and seems to have some added texture over the older models, no need for webbing, unless for aesthetic reasons. Basically it's a stretched 84M I suppose. Amazing how tiny the action is compared to other run-of-the-mill long action rifles out there.

The way it sits right now with a Zeiss Diavari 2.5-10x50, sling, and 9 rounds of ammo in the carrier it's 7 lbs. 11 oz. :dancingbanana:

Yeah, I'll get flak from the westerners for using that scope, but it's what I wanted on there for my type of hunting and right now it still only weighs about the same as an average weight sporter does bare. I may change out the mounts/rings, not because of weight, but I'm not really a fan of the standard Leupold/Redfield set up for durability reasons.

Also a big thumbs up to Roger at Shooters Choice in AB, awesome to deal with!! Now off to fire a few 140 Accubonds.

Right on! I hope it shoots as good as mine, if so you will be happy. If not cou: :D

Good choice on getting rid of the rings, I dislike them for the same reason. I have a set of low Leupold DD's you can have if you want them, bases and rings.

Now, off to the range with it!

Back from firing a few rounds and it appears you're safe. :D
Sight in only took 3 rounds after my usual crude boresighting. The one 3 shot group I got in was just a hair over 1", so I'm pretty happy with that considering they're just leftovers with a stout load of H4831 seating to 3.340", though that appears to be max length for the mag box anyhow.

I was gonna shoot a few more rounds, but discovered a wasp nest above my head, so decided to call it quits after knocking it down.

Thanks for the offer on the DD's, but I need 30mm. I'll be near Cabela's & Wholesale this weekend to see what's there. If they don't have any other setup or DD bases, I may shoot you a PM.

I have a new set of matte DD bases(never opened) if you want them they are yours, just let me know.

I told ya you would like the new stock design, big improvement over the 8400!
