I broke down and got a almost bran new Kimber adirondack 308 off of EE
now that my pipeline job is coming to a end it's time to pick up sum ammo just wondering what you guys finding works best in your 308 Kimber adirondack ?
I will start reloading soon so I need to pick up sum powder ,dies extra I have to figer out powder to pick up befor I get home
Still planning a Alberta Sheep hunt this fall I picked up all the equipmen used off of EE but it is complet kit ready to go
I still have to figer out wear to go sheep hunting but thinking up by Hinton Alberta it easy for me to get out scouting up by Hinton

Varget is a standard for .308 Win... I currently use CFE-223 as my primary .308 powder... either is good. 150 grain bullets are good "all rounders"... Nosler BT Hunting or Hornady SST's are fine on light skinned game. Use Nosler Accubonds or Barnes TTSX's if you want to get serious (more $)... RCBS or Lee 3 FL dies. A single stage press kit (choose your brand) will get you going and a decent digital scale like the Hornady G2-1500 and a Lyman or RCBS champfer tool. Winchester or Remington brass (stick with one brand, don't mix brands), and CCI 200 primers... your golden.

I have the same rifle and this is what I use for sheep hunting, best all around mountain gun that I have found. Supper light and thats what puts more miles on in the hills with less fatigue.
I noticed your not from Alberta? or have you moved here?
As a non resident you would need a outfitter. But as a resident you can just buy the tag and head out.
Residents also get the first week of the season, that non residents cant hunt. Nice leg up for us.
I load Berger 155gr hunters with Varget and mine shoots right around 1inch groups with only a few rounds of load development. Takes a bit to get used to shooting a light short gun like this Kimber, but you certainly will appreciate it when hiking long miles in the hills.

I live in BC but spend most of my time in Alberta working I'm status Indian I know it a dirty word on CGN just as I'm a pipeliner and it's a dirty word in northern BC I guess somebody has to be the bad guy Haahaa
I think I mite do a non-guided hunt this fall ( not going for a big trophy just want the experience of Mountain hunting ) or possibly team up with a Albertan for this hunt evan thinking of possibly hiring a bush plane for drop off and pick up
I'm 50 and healthy and want to do this hunt once well I'm healthy and before I get to old
In the last two years I lost two uncles to cancer
I have dun the same work as my uncles and lived the same lifestyle and it makes me think of how long I have left
Also planing on goat in northern BC and possibly a caribou but it's all going to be Mountain hunting this year

All the more interesting with a healthy population of Grizzlies. A recent incident in this area -

"The bear stood on Kublik for a short while and then moved off. The hunter was immobile with a broken leg, but had managed to retain both a cell phone and GPS during the attack. Surprisingly for such a remote location, he had cell service and made a call..."

i have all the equipment to reload already just need sum brass, primers, bullets, and powder and 308 dies and sumone to Walk me all the way through the process Once

Bush plane is not that great for Alberta sheep hunts. No where to land. Helicopter works much better but i am unsure of all the regulations to do with hunting camp drop offs. I don't believe you can have a gun in one. If i was looking to sheep hunt for the first time with no horses i would head to Cadomin. Best bet to set up a camp no horses and no chopper.
Maybe a bush plane in the Wilmore. Not 100% on there either. I do all my sheep hunting on horses or hike in.

illegal to land a plane or helicopter in alberta in any 400 wmu with a rifle greater than 22cal. great thing about alberta is you have to actually work for the sheep.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be base camp and hike in ultralight minimalists camping on the Mountain
pretty much set up now for a hard Mountain hunt plus I bin walking every day for 10 to 13 hr a day pipelining I shod be in excellent shape by fall both physically and Financialy for this once in a life time hunt

Hiring a competent guide would certainly reduce your time in the field and increase your chances of success. Something to consider if this is a once in a lifetime deal. Actually a DIY Bighorn Sheep hunt doesn't have to be a lot of work - if you know what you are doing and know where to look.

More emphasis on execution, less on equipment.

At this point I'm working on getting into shape as I have everything I need in equipment
Come spring and summer I will be doing as many scouting trips as I can
