I'll be in the market for a pistol early 2006 and the Kimbers are screaming at me big time... however, I was told that the quality control may have slipped a bit lately, and that they made some changes to stray further from the 1911 standard in the II's as opposed to the early I models. Anyone know anything about this? Anyone own a Kimber?

Just looking for overall impressions. Also, other ideas for pistol will be taken into suggestion. I've contemplated on a Beretta 96 Brigadier, or maybe (big maybe) a Glock 21. I think I'd prefer SA/DA though.

I really want one of the smaller Kimber's TSE just got in but I find myself holding back. I've read all over the net people that have bad experiences & some having good experiences. I don't want to spend $1500 & have it be a crapshoot on whether it will be reliable or not. They really look good though & I have a thing for the smaller pistols. On your other choices I would recommend you get a Sig if you can afford one, if not find a Cz. Both are great guns

Is this an ongoing thing with all IIs or was it something of a bad batch? When was the Series II released anyway?

How bout Berettas?

I haven't fired any of these guns so all Im going by is price and styling really... my other big contender is a Beretta 96 for sure. I definitely would not wanna spend upwards of $1500 on a gun that has any kind of tainted track record thats for sure.

There are lots of people that bad mouth the series II safety without having a clue how it works. The firing pin is blocked until the grip safety is activated. If you activate the grip safety the firing pin is unblocked. It matters not what the temp is and it does not affect the trigger at all. The series II became the standard production model three years ago.

I bought a Kimber TLE ll back in June. Out of the box I had a problem with a burr on the extractor not allowing the gun to cycle and chewing up the brass pretty bad. I took it in to the place I bought it and 30 minutes later the problem was solved. I've fired over 800 rounds through it since then without missing a beat. I can't say enough about the accuracy of this gun. I've shot Colts, Para's, S&W, Glocks and Springfields in my search for the ultimate 1911 and, for me, nothing comes close to the Kimber. They are all fine weapons but I definately prefer my TLE ll.

Nice to see some input from south of the border!

Thanks. A member of another hunting site I belong to posted a link to this site today. I followed it over, looked around and liked what I saw so I joined up.

darko, if you do buy the Kimber the first thing I would do is toss the mags that comes with it and replace them with Wilson Combat Mags. The Kimber mags might make a good paperweight, maybe, but they're not good for much else.

I haven't read much on any issues with the II's safeties but there has been considerable discussion re: their external extractors. Apparently the issues have been more than a few. Apparently Kimber has been doing all they can to help solve the problem short of stopping the manufacture of the external and returning to the standard extractor.

I ordered one of the Compact Stainless II's from TSE and was told it has the internal extractor. I think they were being made with the external. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kimber phasing out the external in favour of the original internal. It seems from the pics on the TSE site that the Stainless Pro TLE/RL II and Pro TLE/RL II are equipped with the internal and I think they were also being made with the external.

It's kind of hard to follow the way they are coming out of the factory. Try following the drama at www.1911forum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27

I have a Kimber Stainless Target II & am very happy with it. No problems at all but I have only had it to the range twice.

I would buy another one in a heartbeat as I prefer it over my Colt.

My buddy has a TLE RL/II with the external extractor and has nothing but trouble with it, out of 100 rounds he will easily get 2 FTEs. He called Kimber and the guy said 2 FTEs out of 100 isn't bad. Myself I have a TLE with the internal extractor and the gun has been flawless, I have put at least 10,000 rounds through it and it has maybe jambed once. It is the best gun I have ever owned besides my Glock 17.

Just my 2 cents.

Man have they ever come down. Might have to put a new Warrior under the Tree for Christmas. Got any in stock JR?

No, but our first large handgun shipment has just left New York with our rifles and we already have the paperwork in for an even larger order...

So, without placing an "order" with a deposit, Kimbers can be had at your local dealer, for what the "internet only" guys are advertising them.
