Kimber Montana: what chambering?

Thinking about a Kimber Montana. I have a Tikka T3 Superlite in 30-06 already, so I'm thinking of getting a short action chambering. A 270 WIN is a possibility, but it looks like going for a short action saves about 6 oz. Barrels on the long actions are 24", 22" on the short action.
Right now I'm thinking 7mm-08 or 6.5 CREED. I have a 7mm REM MAG, so that makes stocking bullets less of a search, but that's not a big deal.
Any general thoughts on the Kimber rifles are appreciated.
 
They have a pretty limited selection of cartridge offerings. I think I would go for the good old 270 out of what they have. Yep, it is a long action, but I see nothing wrong with that. If it was a choice I would pick a 284 Winchester over the 270.
 
Overall fit and finish on my 280 AI 84L is really good. Shoots and handles great. I like these little rifles. They are purpose built to be strapped down to a backpack for tough hunts.It is not a jump in and out of the truck rifle or on and of the quad. Top load and blind mag, but for a rifle that gets loaded and stays loaded for a ten day hunt, can't be beat for the price! Not a fun gun for long strings of shooting at the range. Probably one of the best factory triggers. Only negative is I find the shifter on these to small.

They aren't the last word in light, but the WSMs in a Kimber are interesting and effective while fitting in a short action. I've got the .270 WSM in a Montana, and 300 WSM in a Select grade. The .270 gives the Weatherby version a run for its money, and holds a nice easy one pound of rifle per 100 yards of range ratio. :)
 
I just bought a 270 and it was hard to find ,already own a classic in 300 wsm and a adirondack in 308 ,so the 270 is a good fit for me.
You have a 30.06 ,so it's all about how the new gun fits in the arsenal ..light weight long range backpacker ,mountain gun or just a new toy ?
 
Light weight backpacking rifle. Deer, sheep and goats being the target game. Already have several 30-06 and 7mm REM MAG rifles in the typical hunting rifle weight range. So this isn't going to be a general purpose rifle.

Where were you guys sourcing your rifles?
 
I got an Adirondack in .308 from Prophet River last year. I have not been able to get it to shoot anything but 110 gn ttsx, but it shoots those very well. I absolutely love it for packing around, and I just blooded it last weekend. I had 104 lbs on my back for the pack out, and 105 may have killed me.
 
Shooter specialties and Wanstalls ,Weima jack on the forum for mine.Richmond guns has them too.
Nice thing is quite a few stores carry them , just a question of who has the caliber you want

Epps carries Kimber as well. I'm anxious to get shooting my .280ai but it'll have to wait until after hunting season when I get a chance to source rings and a scope.

I was looking at a Sako carbonlite in 308 yesterday I fell in love perfect fit and balance for me the Kimber is lighter but the Sako is so sweet

I was... not worried exactly, but certainly curious about how the recoil would be on my montana in 270. It's really light!

It was nothing. Like shooting a 22. Delightful.

Shoots in the 1" to 1-1/2" range, great trigger.

Passel of problems starting out, and some ugly fit and finish problems with the stock, but it handles so nice. Like its alive. I'd buy another.
