I wasn't the only fellow who had problems with the first Kimber Montanas...I bought that earlier one about 15 years ago when they first appeared in Calgary. But times change and apparently guns can improve.
I don't miss a floorplate, hinged or otherwise, at all. A few decades back...up in a tree stand at dusk ...a truly big whitetail right in front of me. A real easy 100 yard shot. I move my 30-06 with the old FN-98 action that had the extended floorplate release button across a tree limb rest...which releases the floorplate. I could hear my ammo tinkling down through the tree limbs below me into the snow.
I still had one round already in the chamber and I did shoot and kill the buck with it...a nice big ten point typical...After that I got rid of the floorplate button that extended below the floorplate and put a flush military release on it. Ever since then I thought of easy release floorplates as unnecessary...at least for me.
