I have a kimber mountain ascent that beat up pretty badly. I love the feel of the soft grippy finish on the stock and would like to freshen it up.. Just wondering how I can duplicate it in another colour. Is it hydro dip? I’ve never felt a hydro dipped stock.

Hey slimbo...
What did you think of the extra coating left over .. around the lug , action ,....
Add to scrap mine down and clean it up ... wasn't even bedded..
Was yours in the same shape??
I agree , that finish isn't that durable.. the new I saw was O.D.green with no camo pattern , looks like kimber smartened up.

Will do josh thanks.

Big boar yes mine had coating in the barrel shank and recoil lug recess. Bedded pretty loosely too. Kind of funny for a 3000 dollar gun!

I was surprised also at that price point..
Lots of for end barrel tension also..
Going to bed and free float the barrel, and see what see thinks.. then try some fore end shims, see what that pencil barrel likes..

when i got my Montana it was reasonably slick grip wise on the stock, but then i felt a Brand new Montana an it was like a fine sandpaper!

now mine is worn down to the colour under the original finish.. i put two thin strips of grip tape along the main area under the action when carrying..

no , it isnt the rubbery feel of the ascent though..

cheers

That’s probably what I’ll end up doing, but just wondering if there are any soft touch coatings out there

Coating soft to touch soft to wear off.
Finish comes off with Actone on a rag and rubbing .I would not finish over it as it is not bonded all that well. All of the soft touch finishes on any of the Carbon fiber Brownings or Sako's who ever are the same .
If you want you can spray on that rubberized stuff in the spray bomb,(plasti dip) in Canadian tire over top if you clean it well and touch it up at will.
