I just heard that Kimber has packed up its production and moved from New York to Alabama..... Interesting. Now it is causing a supply shortage of spare magazines and parts to canada.
I am very happy with my Kimber rifles, I hope this is a positive move. Now I need one that says Alabama on it, just because......

You either need one that says Alabama Crimson Tide or just Roll Tide .
Why, well just because ;)

When researching Kimber rifles online, the Barret Fieldcraft kept being mentioned as an alternative. (Tikka too, but they don't interest me).
I have a Kimber Hunter in 308 Win, then got a Kimber Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor, then found a deal on a Kimber Mountain Ascent in 270 Win, but kept wondering if a Barret could even be better.....typical gun junkie, always looking for the next best thing....
Eventually, bought a Fieldcraft in 308 Win and played around with it for a while, but recently sold it to a friend. It was a good rifle, but in my opinion, the Kimber is the superior rifle in many ways.

If you understand the mechanics of a truly functional hunting rifle you have to appreciate the value you get in a Kimber rifle.Having had a career in basically analyzing system and mechanical failure I think you would be hard pressed to design a better hunting rifle. Speaking mainly of the montana ,it has arguably the best factory trigger, a true fiberglass/kevlar stock a basically custom action and they shoot well though occasionally require some fine tuning which is to be expected from most production rifles. They stand tall on my list of favorites.

One might think that but apparently there are several machinist schools there, and other firearms manufacturers are moving or have moved there already because it is a gun friendly state. I don't know if it is a good move or a bad move.

My kimber mountain ascent 270win was more accurate than my winchester, sako, browning, ruger, and schultz& larsen, and that was right out of the box. Not bad for a rifle that weighs 5lb 3oz.

It's a good move for Kimber to set up shop in Alabama. No shortage of well skilled aerospace machinists & technicians to pick from. Lower operating taxes and a good supply of metals & plastics along with a good distribution network help a heap better than the crap Kimber had to deal with in NY.

I often find it’s not the barrels that can’t shoot.
