Kimber pistols

I bought my Kimber used (okay, it had some serious mileage before it got into my hands) but it works flawlessly. It's silk-smooth, accurate and so far the only stoppages I've had were from faulty mags and not the gun itself.
Now, they're a lot pricier than Glocks. But then again, you're getting a 1911 which is a completely different animal from just about any other handgun out there, except maybe for a Browning HP.
I have absolutely nothing bad to say about mine, let's put it that way. Oh, and they really like having heavier recoil springs, too. At least *I* like a heavier recoil spring in it.

Kimbers start at ~$1,100 New and go up from there, but you get what you pay for....

I have one and so does my buddy. He had problems with the slide locking back at odd times but Kimber sent him a new part for free and its been fine ever since. Mines worked perfectly since day one.

I have mine - Kimber Custom SS - over two years now, bought it new and have right now over 5K mileage on it and NEVER had a FTL, FTF or FTE.... run like a Swiss watch !

I used a buddie's Kimber all winter. His is an aluminum framed "carry" model which is lighter than the full steel versions. To me, Kimber reeks of quality at a reasonable price; that does not mean low! Accuracy was excellent with that particular Kimber even though it was set up as a "defence" pistol. I can't say much about Glocks but your needs and preferences will or should be the guide. Put the two side by side and pick them up. The lights will go on much more brightly than just reading the specs and looking at price.

I dont agree with this, I have a Kimber Gold Match 2 that i got through Questar.
Best and most accurate 1911 i own. That said i have 3 ww1 1911's and a RR WW2 as well as a Colt LW commander.
I love 1911's, I love my old ones, each has its own quarks, points of aim, sights etc. But i can pick up my kimber and shoot bulls all day up to 50 yds with no problem at all. You can feel the quality when you hold it against a older 1911, so i guess thats it for me you can feel the quality,
I would buy another in a second and I am considering the GM 2 in stainless as well.

They are more expensive then many 1911's in the same quality range and nowhere near as reliable as a Glock - not many pistols are. Having said that, I love my Kimbers and have swapped out a lot of the MIM parts and the plastic MSH. If you want reliability for cheap then Glock is your gun.
Really, you can't compare a Glock and a 1911. They're two completely different animals in every possible respect.
A Glock is pretty much only an "as-is" type of gun with their rather limited options for upgrades or customization. On the othe hand, a 1911 is effectively the "Honda Civic" of handguns. The availability of after-market parts, the ability to customize every little bit, those are some of the advantages that come to mind right off the bat.
Also, there is comfort. Swapping grips on a 1911 is a job of a few minutes and grips come in all shapes, sizes, weights, finish, grip surface, etc depending on preferences. With a Glock, you're stuck with the factory grip and your options are limited to those Hogue slip-on grips, which is far from being ideal for everyone.
Kimbers are no different. They are extremely reliable, accurate and come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and finish levels.
Oh, and unlike Glocks, 1911s come in all price ranges, from cheapy Norinco to a $5000+ Dan Wesson or Nighthawk. Kimbers are amongst the more reasonable priced ones at this time.

I bought my Kimber warrior 3 years ago. It has quickly become my most used handgun. I was an avid Beretta fan for 15 years and then wanted a 1911. I looked around and asked everyone that I met about their 1911's. I took the plunge and bought the warrior and have never looked back. Treat yourself and buy one of the custom series and treat yourself...I did and love it.

Be aware - the newer kimbers have alot (all?) MIM small parts in them. I have shot ~5K in a warrior, and had replaced many pieces inside as they broke. (extractor, slide stop, thumb safety, grip screw. How do you ask? The grip screw bushings were not staked, and undoing the grip scew unthreaded the bushing. so i had to re-tighten the grip screw bushing w/ the grip screw....snap. Oh and I had my plunger tube fall off (improper staked)
Now my Kimber Pro TLE - i was wise to all the issues now. Grip screw bushing not staked again. I i have just given up on the MIM parts. The only original Kimber parts in the gun is the slide, barrel & link, frame, and trigger. The thumb safety is on it's way out as soon as P & D gets a wilson bulletproof one in stock.
Now - dont get me wrong kimbers are good guns, but in my opinion you should have had some experince with 1911's before you by one, or be very comfortable with gun repair. I actaully really enjoyed changing and fitting all the parts to the Pro TLE, I have a 100% custom gun done to my liking with the best small parts availible. I have also been able to get the equivalent of the 3K guns, $100 at a time, much easier to get by the wife then a 3K handgun.

You cant pick up a tactical or pistol magazine without getting bombarded with Kimber ads etc. so based on that and reading a few posts here, I tracked down a Kimber custom Target II back in May. This was not easy,,, everyone I talked to (wholesale, S.Edge, P&D etc.) told me to hurry up and wait. I was also told by one vendor that Kimber wants all the money up front and you cant expect to wait up to 18 months for your order.... put that on top of the shortage of any type of firearm in the US, they are getting very scarce.
All that aside... if you find one, buy it. I am a huge fan of my kimber and I shoot it so much I had to track down a .22 kit for it, close to 1000 rounds down stream (.45 and 22 with the conversion.) with out an issue. The first day I was punching 3 round one hole groups at 20yds with american eagles and I had not fired a pistol in over 15 years. Its a great gun and would buy another in a second. The only drawback I can see is they have sloppy triggers, (Gunner warned me about that) that can be fixed for a few bucks by ARMCO.
All this aside(and yes I know this isnt a glock thd.)... Every time I take someone too the range, they want to shoot the glock 17 over and over, maybe its the fun factor, maybe the .45 is two snappy, I dont know, they just always say, can I shoot the Green one again. I have both and shoot both all the time. I say, buy them, try them, if you dont like them, there is always someone on CGN willing to take them off your hands. Every pistol I have came from a gunnutter.
