I have been starting to save up for a membership and my first pistol which I'm looking to purchase in the spring time or earlier. I originally had thought I would go the wheel gun route and get a S&W 617 but now I think I've made up my mind and would rather have a semi. I can tell you I am NOT interested in any ruger. I really have it narrowed down to a Kimber rimfire target .22lr in stainless or this Tanfoglio force .22. I can't find any info on this Tanfoglio semi though. What are your thoughts on the kimber? Reliability? Picky on ammo?

Forgot to mention that if you have any other suggestions for a semi 22 than please chime in.

If you going to spend those kind of bucks (in the $1000 range). Then consider getting a CZ SP-01 and a kadet kit. It's a bit more but you get litterally twice the gun.
Then you can shoot .22lr AND 9mm from the most popular production IPSC pistol going. Any other CZ pistol could be substituted if you don't want an SP-01.

Or if you want to go polymer then a Glock plus Advantage Arms .22lr kit.

Some will convince you to go with two seperate pistols, but the caliber conversion for my Glock takes less time then loading 1 magazine.

Cheers,
Grant

CZ + Kadet here +1.

You may wanna get a used CZ75/85 and put the Kadet on it - should be about same $1000 you are thinking of.

What??? No Ruger?

I can tell you I am NOT interested in any ruger.

So, why no Ruger?

.22 semi-auto on a 1911....

I'd say if your .22 semi auto must be on a full size 1911, then get a single stack one in .45ACP and a .22 conversion unit for it. Best of both worlds.

[Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.... ;)]

But then again I also have a couple of Ruger .22 semi-autos, too.

+1 on the Ruger. The 22 conversions are finicky. You can forget about using cheap 22 ammo in them. My Kimber conversion works best on my 1943 Rem.Rand frame, everything's nice and sloppy. Buy CCI Mini-Mags, they work best for me
The Rugers' eat everything! :)

It might sound dumb but I simply hate the look of all ruger mark....whatever haha

I resisted Ruger .22's for many years. Then shot a friends bull barrel MkII. I was sold after that. Picked one up for myself. It goes to the range nearly every trip. Also, picked up a MkIII 22/45 4.5" slab side barrel later, too.

Used to think Glocks were ugly. Originally had no use for 'em. Then I put 5,000 rounds thru a Model 22 .40 cal.... I was sold! Still think they are ugly, though...lol... Ruger .22 semi-autos, not so much.

Guess what I'm sayin' is they grow on ya.
