I am cosidering buying one of theese pistols and dont know much about them.
Are theese a good pistol? Will I have to spend more to get it a more smooth trigger pull, polish feed ramp or is it great out of the box?Is this the pistol to go with or is Para or sti better made.Want to keep it a 9mm and stainless.
It would be just used for plinking and punching holes in paper.
I just had a look at Springfield website and they also have a stainless 9mm loaded.Does anyone own a springfield and what are your thoughts on them.

From observation, and your mileage may vary.
Best: STI.
Next: Kimber.
Then Para/Springfield, which is best depending upon how the machinist was feeling on the day.

The STI is more expensive, but has tighter tolerances. Kimbers had a good reputation, but have had some lemons of late.

The Springfields I have seen have had sloppy slide to frame fit, and a tendency to jam in 9mm.

I'm biased against Para Ordnance guns, mine was a lemon and it seems to be a toss up as to wether they are great or crap.

For in depth reviews and discussions, visit www.1911forum.com They have a section for each major manufacturer.

I either own, or have owned all of the mentioned units...
For what you describe, it would be a toss up between the Kimber (ONLY if you had your heart set on stainless) and the STI Trojan in 9MM...
Personally, I would recommend the STI...only downside(to you) would be the
blue finish, but these are great guns...accurate, reliable..well supported...

I'm in the same position as foxbat, and in the end I kept the Kimber, but either will serve you well, and if you're looking at the Kimber, I say get it, you won't go wrong. You absolutely should not have to do anything to the pistol, every Kimber I've had has needed nothing from day one, smooth triggers, flawless reliability, tank tough. If you ever wear out a 9mm Kimber, I salute you, that will be an accomplishment for sure.

O.K then its decided I will get the Kimber:D
I phoned around a few places and no one has them in stock:eek: Questar say they can get me one in 4 to 8 weeks so it looks like I will be getting one from there unless someone knows where I can get one?

The 9mm Kimber Stainless Target II is a rare bird, used to be something of a neo-collector's item because I believe the first run was only 500 pistols total with not many making it to Canada, it now appears to be in current production but is still pretty rare. :) If you have your heart set on it Questar is the way I'd go.

There's always the NP29 (Norinco single stack 5" 9mm 1911), for $349 from marstar (while they last, the last shipment is burning up) you get a HELL of a platform to start with, excellent quality steel. Just add your own preferred accessories and build an excellent gun on a budget.

The pic below is my recently completed NP29, it was dehorned, refinished, sights contoured, hammer and trigger changed out and tuned for a clean pull, grips, full length guide rod, slide stop etc. Anyhow, comes out still a budget gun, but built exactly how you want. Plus, they come with the beavertail etc stock. I hate to admit it but in shooting it is now not far from my Kimbers, not in the same league yet, but close and for the price difference it's a steal.

I also have the NP 29 that I bought off of here and there were a few things done to it already.I just sent it off to Gunnar at Armco to get a tune up:)
I just always wanted a stainless 9mm in the 1911 style.
That is one sweet looking NP 29 you have there and if you want to sell me your Kimber let me know:D

Yes I phoned you the other day looking for a new one.I will have to call you again:) I might be interested in the used one.
