Kimbers ... are they really better? or different?

Interesting. And unfortunate. When you spend that much on a premium gun, you want it to function. Is it broken in? Some tightly fit guns need several hundred rounds before shooting reliably.

Think this one will need more than a couple hundred rounds to loosen up...

Higher end guns have tighter tolerances, and breaking them in properly makes the biggest difference.

Dlask used to make full race guns that would jam after 30 rnds, I would watch 2 shooters cleaning their guns after every stage. funny as hell for a $3000 gun, typical machinist gone gunsmith. He finally learned not to make them so tight anymore.

I have a Kimber Stainless Gold Match II. 45ACP. My favorite gun next to my Sig 210 Swiss army. Never misfired, never jammed, never broke .and always accurate. Of my 12 pistols the one I would trust with my life.

Now then..if I could drop that kind of cash...I would for sure be acquiring a p-210....just beautiful...you're a lucky guy..

Kimbers break and jam A LOT. Just ask anybody on the IPSC range. Go STI, Infinity, Tanfoglio.
Not shot a lot but got about 6 or 7 thousand rounds through mine and its not broke yet and I can count the jams on one hand and I might note with the same mag

my Kimber has been flawless for me so far and until it starts to fail ill sing its praises.
love mine, my fav 1911 and its just their entry level one too.

my dad has one of their upper level ones and its been flawless for him.

if i was gonna sink 2k into a 1911 id have no problem going with a top shelf Kimber.
i would like to shoot a couple other high end ones to compare like a LB and even a Dlask custom, but that investment will have to wait till the kids are gone off to college or married off and my money is once again mine to play with!

Owned several 1911 and only kept 2: a Colt Gold Cup National Match and a Kimber Stainless Gold Match II, which is my favorite by far. Simply perfect for me.

The one and only issue I ever had with that Kimber is when it shot its very first round: the slide jammed open so tight is was. Shot IPSC and Steel Challenges with it without ever any issue. Maybe - maybe once I had a stove pipe with Wolf reloaded ammo, unless it was with the Kimber Custom II I regret selling.

As for the Colt National Match, I always wanted one a and did not resist when I had the opportunity to get one in bright stainless (polished stainless). It looks so damn good I don't shoot it!! I will sell it eventually but the Kimber is a keeper.

my STI TROJAN has out shot and out performed many other types of 1911's ive shot against. i find it the nicest 1911 ive ever shot. but dont get a spartan, they seem to have nothing but problems.

Funny.....not my experience...mine has been faultless...maybe just dumb luck, but somehow I doubt it..

I have a Kimber Custom Target II and it has performed flawlessly, I paid $1050.00 for it. I also have a STI Trojan and it has performed flawlessly, is far tighter, and definitely is better built in my opinion, I paid 1200.00 for it. I'd pay the $150.00 extra for the STI every time now.

Just one point: the slide serrations on the STI are sharp, no burrs but sharp and easy to grasp. The serrations on the Kimber are there as if for looks, they are not sharp and provide far less grip. Many details like this separate the two guns.

Kimber: not better (far too many nightmare stories) not different (just more 1911's with fancy finishes and gimmicky goobers). I know, it's heresy, but honestly there are at least a dozen well made 1911's that will function just fine for casual target shooting out there, most aren't any better or worse than any other. You can get a made in Canada 1911 for the price of most decent Kimbers, at least then you'd be getting something different for all that cash.

i wouldnt say that Kimbers are made to be top end competition guns and keep in mind this is just my take on them.
i think of Kimbers of the Cadillac of the 1911's in that they are nice and smoothed out and feel super fun to use.
i think if i was looking to spend 2k-3k and wanted a driver id probably look at some other brands.
but for taking to the range once a week and shooting for fun and comfort and looking nice while doing it.... well thats Kimber.

that said my dads has a bull barrel on it and is most definitely a driver.
but then its their carry series so its made to be used more if that makes sense?

id love to take a Grand Raptor out for a test spin, would be interested to see what 2k worth of Kimber does.

Me too particularly this one, though it is a little more than 2 K.

You can pick up a Dlask for $1250, an absolute bargain, considering.

It does seem so. I've been eyeballing for awhile as I work out in my mind what I'd like, feature wise.

I keep coming back to the National Match style.

I should write and see if they would do a commander size. I'd like something like a Colt Combat Commander with an LPA rear sight...I hate fixed combat style sights with a passion....
