kind of spotting scope

I don't know about the sniper teams, but the US Army Marksmanship Unit shooters that where at the DCRA last week were all carrying around Leica spotting scopes. These sure won't be "field scopes".

Buy a Swarovski or Leica for range use and either the Bushnell 15-45 or Leupold 15-45 for field use.

The new Swarovski STS/ATS 65 would also be a good field scope if you were willing to spend the money.

There are many fine quality scopes available these days.
In the larger sized tubes:
Pentax PF80ED
Leica Televid 77 or APO-Televid 77
Swarovski 80 or HD-80
Zeiss Diascope 85
Nikon Fieldscope 82

In the smaller scopes there is:
Pentax PF65ED
Leica Televid 62 or APO-Televid 62
Swarovski 65 or HD-65
Zeiss Diascope 65
Nikon Fieldscope 50 (wow is this a small scope) or Fieldscope III 60mm
Minox MD62 or 62ED

It is all a matter of use, price range and personal preference. If we can answer anything for you please feel free to let us know.

When I started target shooting way back in the 60's, all I could afford was a Bushnell Sentry. It did its job and I still have it. Then as my eyes needed more light and power I bought a Bushnell Spacemaster II. It did its job for a while and I still have it. Now I have bought a Carl Zeiss Diascope 85T*FL with a 20-60x eyepiece. I set up the Zeiss and the Spacemeaster the other day on my 100m range and looked at the same target. The Bushnell showed a yellowish target while through the Zeiss the target appeared white. Goes to show that you shouldn't save on optics(or shoes), unless economic circumstances say otherwise.
