The reason that it is the size it is, is because the ports are sized to work, not just look good.
This is not some flashy HSLD bolt on gear, its a very hard working bit of kit.
The comp can come threaded and you can buy exstended choke tubes that are threaded on both ends.
so if thats your inrest then it can be done.
I know casey @ tacord.com has somthing set up for the breecher he sells

thanks for the info. i have been eyeing up those for a while now. Ideally, I would like to find one of the Mad MAX birdcage style turkey chokes.. but i dont think they are made anymore.

Sorry to drag up an old post, but I wanted to clear up some details here.

The reason for the longer setup is because it lets the shotwad move completely past the main ports before it impacts the doorframe or whatever else you stick the muzzle against. The main ports have approximately 2.5x the venting cross-section than the barrel itself has so the propellant dumps out very quick. When the shotwad starts to penetrate the propellant blast is outside of the breacher and pushes the resulting debris from the shotwad against the door and outward. Shorter breaching attachments tend to allow a lot of the blast to exit the muzzle and this causes debris to blow back towards the operator which can cause injury. The KA-1212BR is designed to be more effective and safer than standard breaching attachments.

As far as installing it on a choke tube, it can be done. However, threading on barrels and choke tubes doesn't start in the same place on any two items. What you can't easily see on the pics of the KA-1212BR is that it has no ports on the top 90 degrees and bottom 90 degrees, therefore it needs to be indexed to work as designed. To install on a choke tube we usually have a customer take an extended choke, thread it into their barrel tightly, mark 12 o'clock on the barrel, and send it in to us. We take the choke tube and machine it to the needed OD and length, solder the KA-1212BR in place with it correctly indexed on the choke tube, and refinish the completed part. When the completed ass'y is screwed into the customer's barrel, the ports are correctly indexed. The main advantage to installing the breacher on the outside of the barrel is that it makes the mating point the strongest point on the barrel ass'y. When you mount a breaching attachment on a choke tube like a lot of companies do, you end up having a major weak point because of how thin-walled the choke tube is. For shooting at the range and maybe in a training session, the choke tube setup works fine. Under stress or at a full run they have a tendency to get bent or cracked and fail. Bent choke tubes are one of the biggest complaints we get from LE agencies using other breaching attachments. Its a lot more work installing them on the outside of the barrel, but it will take a TON of abuse without failing. Law enforcement is our primary market so we tend to build products a bit differently than what you tend to see in the retail market. Durability takes priority over ease of installation, which unfortunately can discourage a lot of retail customers.

Great idea. Love the look of it and the fact that that they make a universal fitting is very appealing. I just got a Stevens 350 Security and am looking forward to getting one and mounting it on the front of my new shotty.

Matt in order to get on the the KA breacher-breakes to work the best you will need to give us the corect size of your muzzle, we have standard sizes but allso can do a custome one.
Any gunsmith that can follow direction can install this item for you.

If you looking for just a really good brake- flashider KA make the standard 1212 sich is thethe same as the breacher but with no teeth.
we have them in coming and hope to have them out to retail dealer before xmass.

I have to admit the brake is tempting, but I really want the tacticool factor. This is my toy shotgun, so making it look like I want it to is all I want from it. Mall Ninja of me I know, but we all have those moments where we just want something that looks b@d@ss! LOL. I will wait for the doorbuster.

It's a zombie thread brought back from a year and a half ago. It was posted before the adults set up a kiddie table in another room aka the Black and Green Shotgun forum.

A breaching attachment does two main things, it holds the muzzle in place against a door jamb or lock, and it allows the barrel to vent pressure when fired with the muzzle stuck against something. Obviously, sticking a bare muzzle in a door jamb is going to partially obstruct the barrel and can cause a barrel to rupture. A breaching attachment provides that needed venting and and standoff distance to prevent the barrel from bursting.

The improvements we made with our design is using square teeth which is less prone to snagging on gear/clothes, but bites into door jambs far better than standard point teeth. We also incorporated the features from our KA-1212 brake/suppressor unit to give it the capability of shooting tight groups (something most breaching shotguns can't do), reduction of recoil, and elimination of flash. This allows a breaching shotgun to be used for normal uses as well instead of just breaching. This allows the breacher (man, not the attachment) to be able to breach the door and accurately engage any threats on the other side. This improves group effectiveness and reduces collateral damage and unintended injuries. Generally, a 12" barrel with a KA-1212BR installed will shoot similar patterns as a 20" standard barrel will. It also will do it with near-zero muzzle flash :cool:

We spent a lot of time and money developing the part and testing it, and in turn, managed to get a lot more performance out of it than other breaching attachments that are on the market. I'd bet that we spent more time and money developing our KA-1212BR than any other company has on their attachments. We've even tested them for use with 'bird bombs' and less-lethal munitions to make sure that there are no performance or reliability problems. By the time it hit the market it was a completely debugged and ready-for-duty part. They've been available on the market since '07 and we've had ZERO failures of any kind with them, they are built to take a lot of abuse.

Yeah, they do pretty good shooting clays too. Nothing like watching some guy piss and moan because his $1500 Benelli is getting schooled by an 18" Rem870 with a breaching attachment on it. Ran another clays guy into the ground at the range the other day, he was absolutely livid watching some guy with an "evil black shotgun" put the hurtin' on him :p

Guess I could change my user name to "King'o'Clays" and hang with the Fudd crowd too ;)
 
BTW, here is the shotgun I used for dove season last year. Took a magazine restrictor as long as my forearm to get down to 3 round capacity, but it was taking out birds like a AA battery :p

Sure. I guess there's nothing like it because it happens so rarely. Sort of like a solar ecplise. Happens every decade or two and everyone gets excited.

I read all the time on the Internet about the the badazz tacticool tough guy who says he beats all the other clay shooters with his homeboy shotty. Can't recall seeing it in person. So where do you shoot top gun? I'd like to see this performance with my own two eyes. Until then it's just more Internet braggadocio (that's a fancy ass word for bulls**t in case you don't know.)

I understand that you have a financial interest in selling these gizmos to the great unwashed. Good luck to you. If I forget my keys and need to shoot the hinges off maybe I'll give you a call. :rolleyes:
 
Yeah, the great unwashed like NYPD's Emergency Services Unit, Chandler SWAT, and a few dozen other agencies across the US. My response to you was a direct counter for your unwarranted derogatory remark towards me, we don't speak much French down here but we understand 'smartass' well and know how to speak it a little too. Even with things being busy I still shoot 15-20K shotshells per year so I do get plenty of trigger time. I got box full of ammo receipts for 2010 behind me, and a company that manufactures products made SPECIFICALLY for duty use, not as a 'decoration' or 'gimmick'. You got what? A .gif of a breaking clay as an avatar and an anonymous internet handle to hide behind. Yeah, its pretty obvious who the 'internet commando' here is. Come one down anytime (hell, the rest of the pissy old Canadians do every winter anyways) with your shotgun, attitude, and $100, and I'll even cover the range fees. I got nothing to hide and don't waste my time sniping legitimate business owners on the internet. I'm no Tom Knapp, but I do shoot for a living, not a hobby, might keep details like that in mind before opening your yap.
 
...and I was posting some information on behalf of one of our dealers. Not exactly much of my 'financial interest' at stake here. Found this thread on Google and opted to throw in my 2 cents, nice to see the 'courtesy' given here, I got 4 posts and I'm already getting getting insulted by folks.

First off, I am glad you came forward and explained your product. I call that the mark of a good manufacturer who will openly defend and explain their product.

You have made my decision easy and when the breaching brake is available next year you canbet I will be getting one.

Secondly, Claybuster, the thread was about if anyone was interested in the product, not if anyone was interested in your cheap .2 cent opinion about someone elses shooting. If nothing else you have further pushed ahead the stereotype of skeet and clays shooters being elitist j@ck@sses. I am sure the sport thanks you for your efforts.
