king of rimfire, hunting

If you are just out hunting rabbits and grouse, all you would need is a .22LR. Your choice if you want to go with a semi, or go with a bolt action. I love my semis for hunting. A rabbit on the run against a 25rd clip in the alders is a blast! ( excuse the pun! haha! )

For small game get a .22 LR... especially if you don't have any rimfires yet... every single shooter should have an LR in their arsenal... money doesn't seem to be an obstacle for you, so I would buy a CZ bolt... preferably a 452, there are still some new ones circulating... if not, then a 453 or the new 455... I would recommend the American or Varmint models over the Lux style. We shot all of our grouse and rabbits with pellet guns for over 30 years... both Benji HB20 pistols and Sheridan C9 .20 caliber rifles... so an LR is perfect... try the subsonic or standard velocity loads.

Being that I did have had both Sako Quad and Sako FF, I find the CZ will do it for allot less and believe me I do love Sako rifles. The Sako will also have higher capacity magazine in the 22 WMR or 17 HMR. It’s all in your preference...

They won't keep the skin on knuckle though..can't stand CZs bolt throw, other than that, I like them. The trigger is not even in the same league either..no matter what kit.

sorry I thought I did,
mainly hunting grouse and rabbit
the more versatile the better, but everything has its extents.

taking this all in.

Unless your hunting in open field and need the extra range (of the 17HMR), I'd stick with a 22lr for small games.

My go to gun for this, are the 9422 and/or 39A Mountie

its a rimfire. if you need to "wrap fists sround the bolt to open it and cycle the action somthing is very worng. i operate my 452 22mag with one finger form pulling the trigger-cycle-eject-cycle-chamber-shoot.

Thanx for the lesson, I don't need one. I think I know what I am talking about. The bolt throw comes up so much that I have to go with higher rings, with my Zeiss scopes. I am also not the only one who shoots my guns. I just got 2 people hooked on shooting this weekend. Every one that I have taken out prefer the Sako action because of this. There is only a couple things I don't like, but other than that they great.

OP get a 22LR..

On grouse with a hmr anything other then a head shot will make a big mess. Last time I shot grouse all I had was a 30-06 with 165gr sst. Head shot is a very must with that lol. It did taste good though.

I would go with a 22lr for hunting game I'm going to eat. The hmr is an amazing gopher gun though.

Some one must have big mitts...:D

As for the trigger, my 17 hmr purchased used had a very nice trigger and never inspected to see what was done but worked just as good as my Sakos...

I think LR is choice, WMR was thinking of but still may be to much grunt.
im liking lever actions right now :D

henry golden boy? maybe to much show.

HMR vs. small bird~terrible idea. I was asked to clear a few pigeons out of a barn once, all I had was my HMR with me. Remarkable effect it had on them, but clearly not a small bird round if the bird is meant to be eaten.

On the CZ issue~I love those things, but that bolt throw is one of the factors slowing me down from getting another. (notice I didn't say "stopping me") I shot one for an entire summer once, loved it. Remember picking-up my Savage 93FV shortly after and thinking "WHEW, that's better." A little (more) bolt clearance goes a long way...and yes, I have big mitts! :)

Yeah you know what they say about guys with big hands.........they wear XL gloves/mitts. It sucks having big hands...I like both CZ and Sako...

Your not the only one that knows about CZ bolt lift. Not to mention that zeiss scopes have quite large eye piece. Its a matter of matching scopes and guns togher.

Ruger 10/22 .22LR
Henry H001M .22 WMR
Ruger 77/17 .17HMR
Ruger77/22 .22LR
Savage Cub B .22 short to LR

You deserve one of each, caliber that is. The rifle is up to you. If you have the chance try to paw the Rugers and a Henry. The Cub with a fixed 4X leupold is an ultimate chicken killer, carry it in your back pocket all day everyday.

Do you have a Cub set-up like this? I'm thinking of buying a Savage Rascal "for-my-daughter" :) but have my own plans for it while fishing in the fall.

Yep, a fun little shooter! I looked at the Rascal but it was a little to small for me to shoot comfortably, would have been great for the kids. I bought the Cub for my son and when I brought it home my little girl wanted a pink or purple one. Savage makes a pink thumbhole version, the CUB T. I had the chance to try one, all I can say is I wish I would of bought the T variant, in the brown laminant that is. Comfortable little chicken gun! When my last son comes of age I know what I'm going to buy him, the T.
