King of the $2K optics?

I hear you!
- Than again, seems like compagnies quality "optics" in their scopes will also have quality reticles and mechanical components

Unfortunately, there have been plenty of rather expensive scopes that have 'pooped' the bed.

Price may help wrt to glass quality (sometimes)... it certainly hasn't proven a reliable indicator on the internal workings, nor longevity

YMMV

my 'opinion' is that at a certain point the improvements in clarity/resolution/contrast/freedom from flare etc is subject to diminishing returns and very costly. It is reasonable that a lot of attention is paid to the clarity of image .. because that is readily observable... Unfortunately what we dont see is the primary reason we buy a scope .. and that is to securely contain a reticle that provides a dependable and repeatable aiming point and allow for precise adjustment of the reticle to accommodate varying range to target and windage. Personally I would like to see more discussion and evaluation of the mechanical quality and features of scopes

Went to the range yesterday with my new to me Stryker, a Javelin and my buddies Cronus Gen 2.

Stryker to my eye had a bit better glass than the Cronus at all distances we looked at. The turret feel on the Stryker isn't as crisp as I am used to. Its not awful, but not as tactile and audible as my Javelin or the Cronus. It'll just take some getting used to. The reticle center dot is a fair amount thicker than the Cronus center dot. Its not necessarily a bad thing as I found myself losing the center dot on the Cronus at 300 yards.

The Cronus is also a great scope. I found the image a bit "whiter" than the Stryker. Not sure how else to describe it than the image seemed more white washed with maybe a little bit of contrast lost. The turret feel is awesome with positive and audible clicks. I love the reticle as I'm used to Athlon reticles. The revelation that the center dot is quite small compared to the Stryker caught me by surprise.

The Javelin held its own compared to these 2 scopes. The turrets are nice and crisp. Everything is smooth to operate on the scope. The glass falls off at higher mag and the further we go. I find the parallax a bit sensitive on the Javelin.

Overall I'm stoked on the Stryker for the price I paid. I don't know if I would feel as excited paying the NIB price. I think if a person was looking at the Cronus and Stryker, it would come down to your reticle preference and the warranty. Unlimited vs 10 year. Now to decide on my next $2k price point scope purchase.

Unless you’re set on FFP, don’t overlook Leica. Their 3-18X44i is outstanding in many ways (and this is coming from someone who has been an S&B snob for years).

I use mine for LR (1km +). Under 2 grand especially if you wait for a sale.

I second this recommendation.
I have minox, nightforce and leica (both amplus and prs).

The leica amplus 3-18x44 is really good.
prs is of course better, but it's more bulky and doubled the price.

as Nightforce, 2k won't even get your to nx8. you need to look at something 3.5k+

don't want to sound patronizing, but 2k for a new ffp won't get you anywhere. SFP yes doable, but FFP for 2k it's tough.

FFP just over 1K

All the LOW made 4.5-29x56 / 4.5-30x56 scopes would like to have a word

Yeah I agree. I expected interesting responses to a simple thread about scopes in a certain price point. I think this price point has alot of value for the average shooter. I'm not an elite operator like most on here so a sick NF isn't necessary for me. Maybe I can get some NF stickers for my scopes so I can look the part though.

Well coming from a guy that owns or owned pretty much every scope manufactured. I would have to say BS on that one. Im not even going to get in an unwinable discussion with someone who obviously knows little on optics. There are so many quality optics available today for well under 2K its crazy. Minox,Meopta ,Nightforce,Sightron,Vortex,Athlon blah blah blah. There are so many. Its an optic buyers paradise compared to just a decade ago. Your obviously young and new so I get it. Unlike you I actually have owned most of the scopes your bashing and used them in competition. The SHV line in the F1 are a great glass for well under 2K. I have groups with my 6BR Hellfire at 500 at .655" with the SHV F1. I have had great results with Vortex PST GEN11 5-25 as well and still own 2. I also have different Zeiss and S&B as well as 2 Kahles, both the 3-18 and the 5-25. The glass quality is obviously better on the 5K scopes as it should be but the targets are still hit with the under 2K glass.

I know the last sentence would set fire on old poor guys like you. You are just feeling being patronized, exactly as I predicted.
You are raged because a seemingly "young" and "new" guy can afford as much as, if not more than what you can buy. You think your age and experience entitle you to be richer than me. Your ergo gets really hurt.

by the way, nightforce shv is a piece of sh1t, so is vortex pst gen2. I own both. and I look down them.

I knows optics more than anyone of you combined here. When I was playing Leica rangefinder camera, you probably were still digging your sh1t hole at backyard.

I think you’ve become unbalanced and actually incoherent. I’m happy that your so wealthy and smarter than everyone on Nutz combined. Oh I have Leica as well. Binos only, no scopes. Cheers
