I recall viewing a YouTube video on German and Ferlach gunmakers, who where interviewed at a gun show in Europe. Starting price on a single shot rifle (wood) is 30,000 Euor dollars....................nuts!
 
Aluminum receiver and thin wood stock is already pushing the limits of diminishing returns on weight.

I can’t imagine the composite stock and titanium version
 
I have 150 grain Sierras I’m going to try to load somewhere along the 308 spectrum with them for most stuff. Lots of 198 and 200 grain bullets for other stuff. 7x65r would have worked but it wasn’t around

The fancy scope has a damn knob that interferes with the qd levers or doesn’t give enough eye relief for really spicey ones. Going to have to try something different

Some videos of fjudds online shooting them bare with factory 9.3x74r ammo.
 
Bought a Merkel K1 in 7RM in 2012. It takes a bit of getting used to with the muzzle flip, and the safety setup, but, no big deal. I just run 140gr at 7-08-280rem type speed in it, didn't really want a 7RM at the time, but, it was too good a deal to turn down. It is a sweet gun to carry, put a Zeiss Conquest MC 3-9x40 RZ600 on it, works just fine on that gun, makes for a nice light combo that can do what need doing if loaded up, and nice and pleasant to shoot when downloaded.

Ouch! That rifle will kill from one end and wound from the other. My steel frame Kipplauf, chambered in the 300 H&H has plenty enough recoil for me.
 
Surprised we don’t have more nuts who own these rifles.

European? Check. Mountain Rifle? Check. Often inordinately expensive? Check.

That’s three big factors in CGN popularity lol
 
CGN popularity! I think maybe there is an extra "0" in that price tag!!! I hunted 20 plus years - took many Saskatchewan white tail and mule deer - with a Ruger 1A in 7x57 - just outstanding, so far as I was concerned - but not lightweight at all - not like I read about kipplauf rifles - dismantle - stow into your pack - climb a mountain - way up in high alpine a day or two later re-assemble - take a shot at a chamois - pay the guide/outfitter like $50,000 after the descent. Maybe I am dreaming - but what I think a kipplauf was about. There was a repeater made for a while - a Kesserlin, I think - very slim Mauser 98 - I think 2 rounds in magazine box. For those that planned to miss, I guess??

My latest purchase - yet to be fired by me - a Ruger Compact in 243 Win - 16.5" barrel, 12" LOP - with a Leupold 2-7 scope - 6 pounds 13 ounces without sling or ammo. About best I will ever do for an "old guy" type rifle in Manitoba.

Yes you forgot the part where you pay for the chamois meat though lol

Croatian chamois hunts are cheaper with flights than most goats I think, plus you fly into Zagreb not Prince George
 
I would love to do a Croatian chamois hunt one day. Must look into it. For now I am entertaining myself with Saskatchewan moose much closer to home. Kipplauf rifles are a joy to hunt with, whatever the hunt species and location.

Reminds me of my Brno Effect. 7 pounds scoped and very accurate. Ugly wood though. Been thinking of having Chris Griesbach "Anglicize" the stock, add a metal buttplate with widow's peak, add a skeleton grip cap and create a small compartment for a few rounds. :) Super handy rifles. Kipplauf's are on my WTB list.

^ I was playing with the idea of doing a buttstock cartridge trap on mine…

The stain on it is pretty dark red, not the greatest finish. Not sure what is underneath, might look better with an oil stain. Didn’t really purchase for looks though

Planned to build a Mauser but unexpected expenses have come up. Consolation prize? A QD aimpoint mount and holosun aimpoint knockoff for the Haenel. Thinking I will sight it and the irons in with 220s for close range hunting.

Mine is a recently acquired Krieghoff Hubertus with steel receiver, so not the lightest version, but well matched for the caliber - .30R Blaser. It is "light enough", handles exceptionally well, and it shoots! I really like the Swarovski Z3 3-10x42 rail mount scope & Recknagel QD swing mounts too. I have a bunch of full power RWS factory loads ( like a .300 H&H) for hunting the big stuff, and have developed a nice mild .308 Win.equivalent hand load for everything else. Can't wait to get it out in the field!

You're going to like the 30R, I have one in a Krieghoff Classic SxS. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I've shot 3 different factory loads in it, 165gr, 180gr and 184gr. It definitely works well. If you come across a copy of the data out of the last Deva manual, let me know, the one I have is from 2005.

Seems like they are getting a lot of mileage off the one gun they made years ago.

Recently they shared a bunch of pictures of it on Instagram but it’s the same gun that’s been on their site for ~5 years. Maybe they overestimated the willingness to change of their target market

Maybe the owners are too busy hunting endangered sheep I’ve never heard of in the ‘stans to share pictures with us peasants

try the southern part in slovenija there are builders that speaks german and will built for less than the austrian guys and they understand russian but will treat you equally ...
