Here's the kjohn dictionary for proper terms re: gophers

1. Gophers - simple as that. They are NOT Prairie Dogs, a different animal altogether. :HR:
2. Gophers - simple as that. They are NOT striped gophers, a different animal.
3. Shooting gophers - simple as that. NOT hunting gophers - it's shooting gophers.
4. Gophers are destructive little bu&&ers. They are not cute. They can be chock full of worms - argh!!!cp:
5. Caliber? Anything from snaring, pellet guns, rimfire, centerfire, shotgun, arrows. I've shot plenty with nasty old 12 ga. semi autos. :50cal:
6. The shorter the grass, the better. Gophers are considerate little bu&&ers. They prefer short plants. (on the serious side, I was told they prefer short growth so the can see their enemy coming)
7. Seek and ye shall find. Chewed down pasture is usually the best place to start, but once they get started in crops, they can be easily found - just look for a bare patch in an otherwise healthy crop.
8. Be aware of the terrain and other people, animals in the area. Farmers and others shooters don't really like being on the wrong end of someone shooting. It is unnerving to say the least, and dangerous.
9. Did I say gophers (the kind we shoot) are not Prairie Dogs, groundhogs, or striped gophers. They are GOPHERS!
10. Have fun! Be careful.

** This excerpt from my dictionary is to be taken in fun. :ang3

They are also athletic, when the proper persuasion is used they will do a 2 and a 1/2 back flip with or without a twist or perhaps sometimes simply explode for no good reason. G: :D
