I have made a couple mistakes that we are not going to talk about. Those poo poo things that hold the cases don't last long and I will try that.

Don't shoot them in my opinion as hot rounds are hard on guns even if it doesn't blow it up.

you never stated what your normal load is (or how many grains this is over your normal load). that would be a big thing, also are these plinkers or hunting loads or target loads ? if they are plinkers i might shoot them if they arent to far away from your normal load, if they are hunting or target loads, pull them, both are expencive and no need to use expencive components for 60 rounds of plinkin.

Listen. If this makes you feel any better, I loaded up 300 rounds of 44 mag. About one out of 3 would go "pop" and lodge the bullet an inch down the barrel. I don't know how many I fired, but it was around 60 or 70. The powder was in there, and getting everywhere. It didn't even look like it was burning properly. To this day, I still don't know what the heck was going on. Anyway, that left the rest of the 300 to be pulled. It really doesn't take that long, even with a kenetic puller. I got into it and was done in about an hour.

So you did 230-240 in an hour? As in one every 15 seconds?You da man!

Yes Joe. That would be about right. There are a few tricks with the RCBS hammer pullers. The main one is to do one, loosen the nut, use the bullet inside to pop up the case high enough so you can grab and pull. Then, put in another cartridge and do it, leaving the first bullet in there. After the 2nd one is opened, loosen the nut. Again, use the bullets to pop up the empty case. Now you've got to take off the nut and dump the powder and bullets. Now repeat. Yea, you've got 2 bullets in there whacking each other at the same time, but it was just my home cast stuff. Throw it back in the pot and make new ones. No biggie.
The part I really didn't like was punching out all those primers. 3.5 cents each....times over 200 is just such a waste. Yea, I'm that cheap Anyway, I didn't have one cartridge not pop the bullet, so the primers were going off, but were they the problem, or was it the powder ??? There was powder in there, but it wasn't igniting. I just punched everything and started over.

The RCBS puller works really well with copper jacket rounds. It's not recommended for cast bullets just in case anyone is wondering. I've got one and it is a great little tool. The problems I found was getting the damned things. I was walking past the cabnet at WSS one day and they had one so I bought it along with a couple of collets they had in stock. Of course, the one I really wanted...a 30 cal wasn't in stock. I checked all over hells half acre with no luck. It was months later that WSS got a few in and I finally got my 30 cal collet.
Klunk I would just shoot them. Having said that, I have an RCBS collett puller (and a couple of kinetics too, I think) if you want to try one out. I'm in country, at the moment. - dan

The advice is sound. Book max is with a particular rifle, lot # of brass, lot # of primer and lot # of powder. And the data varies from one manual to the next! A careful work up with different lot #'s of components will yeild results that can be well below book max, above book max, but rarely exactly book max.
I leave yah un-supervised for a year or so and look what happens.... Next thing yah know you will try and put twice the amount of powder in that cannon of yours........
