KMG Hunting Season 2017

That'd be a high pucker factor being that close to a daggaboy!
There's another thread where a guy said he was heading to Africa for $5 or 6 grand all inclusive with the flights!
What are guys doing taxidermy wise? What if a guy would just want Europien mounts? Do they do it there? What about cost & maybe import fees to Canada?
Sorry, probably a lot more questions later. I'm going to Africa in the next few years...lol
 
SJ..........The buff in post 38 is not a Dagga Boy, he is a young bull with tips still sharp and his boss still has a fair gap. The term Dagga Boy is usually reserved for the old bulls who have worn their horns down until there is very little up curl and their bosses will be one big solid cap over their heads. Just thought you might like to know............

Patrick, unfortunately you can't bring it back into Canada, not even biltong! It would also be cost prohibitive I think to bring the meat back. It doesn't ever get wasted though, meat at the lodge is eaten by the hunters while they are there, some by us and the workers and the rest is sold into market. We eat wild game bought from the store like you would buy chicken and beef here.

Douglas, Yup, you know you are close when you can smell him or see the oxpecker birds. Ok Mr buff .... just going to back up very slowly now ... didn't mean a thing by trespassing on your turf ...

Nothing like bumping into a buff to get the adrenalin flowing in the morning!

Our hunters do lots of different things with trophies. Some guys do euro mounts, some shoulder and some full sized mounts as well ... There are two ways to look at taxidermy if you are doing mounts. You could have it dipped and packed, which is essentially having the hide and horns treated so that they may enter Canada and then you have them mounted by your local taxidermist. You could also have the taxidermy done in South Africa and have them shipped fully finished. While shipping only dip and pack is cheaper than shipping full mounts, the taxidermy here is generally speaking more expensive than in Africa so the two methods pretty much balance out. For me it comes down to having a taxidermist who does African mounts everyday rather than a guy who is mostly doing whitetails. I have had crates from plains game to Giraffe and Cape Buffalo shipped back personally and obviously our hunters trophies too. Shipping is a tough thing to estimate but as a ballpark a crate to Toronto with shoulder mounts of a zebra, Impala, Kudu and Blesbok would run you around 1500 CAD. Hope this helps!

Aarrrrr...I'm not the biggest buffaloe hunter. I've heard them called that before and figured I'd be the "cool" guy but turned out to be the rookie.......once again...lol.
Thanks KMG. The wife gave it the thumbs down but said I should bring a hunting bud instead! That'll do. We're thinking maybe in 2019. I'll PM you.
