My Xmas present to myself is that I am upgrading all my mag holders on my ipsc rig. I shoot a glock in production (surprising, I know) lol
Does anyone have first hand experience with the knock off/ Asia/ airsoft aluminum mag holders?
They look like the race masters, but can be had for half the price.
I kept an eye out for Black Friday deals but didn't see anything but SERPA and black hawk on sale, and I doubt Boxing Day will be any different.

I like the cr speed ones but think the aluminum race masters and copies would be a be longer lasting, and wouldn't have to worry about it every again.

Thought I would ask tho as I can not find many reviews and only know people who know people who saw them once and thought they worked fine

Thanks!

Where would you buy these from? I'm looking to break into action shooting on a budget. Was just going to make my own from kydex or magnets.
Edit:
Just looked and found some online. I think I'll just continue with my foray into kydex.

Knock off pouches from a knock off discipline?
If you are going to upgrade, the known quality stuff is a better bet.

I've seen the airsoft CR Speed copies. The holster came as a bag of cheap looking parts with no instructions, good luck with that. The pouches were similarly rough, I guess they would work but I wouldn't recommend them.

There was at least one shooter here in Alberta competing with CR speed copy pouches. They worked just fine, and only broke when tripped and tumbled on them. Not sure how the real deal would have stood up to 200+ lb rolling on top of them...

The real ones have stood up fine to a couple seasons of serious abuse from my 250+ lb "physique"
I routinely smash into walls and trees, and hit the ground going prone, during my 3gun matches.
My technique is definitely more function than form!!

For IPSC, if you break them, I'd bet you did damage to your pelvic bones as well.

There are only a few companies that make competition gear as the market is extremely small. Rewarding knock off companies just hurts the sport in the end. The real manufacturers will offer you support and send you a part should you break one or need replacement. The knock off stuff are made by companies that could care less about copyright or intellectual property and I doubt you would even get a response if you asked for a part. Good equipment lasts a long time. Just my thoughts.

^^So what you are saying is that people who are on a limited budget shouldn't try to get into action shooting?
You do realize that the race masters are 58$ and the racers are 38$.
Neither are affordable considering the amount of mags one needs.
I mean lets face it, shooting isn't cheap, but that doesn't mean it needs to be more expensive than it already is.
I can't blame the OP for wanting to save a little coin for practice ammo!

The cost of gear is minimal in comparison to the cost of shooting.
No one is saying you have to buy top of the line or the most expensive gear out there.
But buying quality gear that will likely last you for your shooting career is not bad advice.
If your setup costs $300, 10 years of shooting = $30 a year.
Shoot one less level 1 match a year, or one less practice session during the year and do dry fire instead, and you have paid off your belt.

But lets be honest, if buying a quality belt setup and mags is not affordable, chances are competing more than once or twice a year will not be affordable. And the practice costs needed to be competitive will definitely not be affordable.
Harsh reality is this isn't exactly the cheapest hobby.

Also, buying cheap airsoft stuff that will break at the end of the first year, just means you have to buy more for next year, and by that point you have spent more than buying quality gear from the beginning.
Buy once, cry once.

If you're focused on competing and having reliable, worry free gear, I don't think you wanna go under $30 for a mag pouch with the exception of ghost. Ghost makes excellent mag pouches for the price.

I recently switched out all my ghost stuff for another brand and am thinking of going back. My only pet peeve is they take up so much room on the belt....for skinny guys this means your 4th and 5th mag are pretty much in the small of your back. Not always ideal for the 32 round count stages.

FWIW, every time I've tried to purchase "lower quality" shooting stuff I've been disappointed. (That's not to say I've never been disappointed buying good quality stuff, just disappointed less frequently...) When I buy low-end gear I always buy twice.. First I buy the cheap stuff, then I buy the stuff I should have bought in the first place.

YMMV.

Well certainly am not looking to hurt the sport.
In all honesty, I know I am only competing against myself.
Last year I could only afford to go to two shoots, and it'll probably be the same this year.
Also I was sort of hoping the aluminum pouches might hold up better than plastic.

I'll be looking into the ghost ones, sounds promising, thank you very much.
I suppose I could rethink my by set up and number of mags I carry. Love my magnet, might try and see how I get along with just 4 pouches and the magnet.

5 should be enough but most people seem to go with 6. The longest stage is 32 rounds so that is 4 magazines. It's nice to have 1 or 2 just in case you have a jam or drop one on the run.

As a side note, there are still two DAA racer magazine pouches left from our clearance sale that you can have for the clearance price. I use the plastic ones myself and never have had a problem. The aluminum ones are nice but they both have the exact same retaining mechanism.

Make that 2 Jeff!

I have been using my CR speed knockoff pouches for years now. I'm very happy with them. I did try a knockoff CR speed holster.... Not reccommended for IPSC use, as it wouldn't stand up to the abuse, but works well for my para since I rarely use it.

Also stay away from the knockoff belts. They are just not stiff enough....

So Belts- no
Holsters - no

pouches- YES!

I have CR style ones that have held up great to my abuse for years.
I also JUST got some knockoff bladetech ones as well and they seem pretty solid. I'm using them on a knockoff belt, with a knockoff holster with my frankengun para.

I also have some gubba knockoffs in the mail that I am going to use for my single stack rig.

Im in the school of thought of buy the best you can afford and if you dont mind saving and waiting to take that best up a level or two go for it. If I were you id message rollie and see what he can do for you with kydex.

Lol I just always worry I'm going to screw up, lose a full mag and get a fail to engage.

I used 4 pouches and a magnet to shoot PD, SD and Classic. Never had a problem. Last few years I have been shooting Rev Div but 2015 I will back in PD and will use the same set up. A magnet in No1 and 4 pouches behind it. That will give me 61rounds to complete a CoF with a maximum of 32rounds. If I can't come up with a plan to complete any stage I encounter I am in the wrong game! Lol :)
