I spent part of the day last Monday (Apr 11 2011) doing some reloading, I had 150 cases charged with 37.1 grains of powder (or so I thought), now and then when weighing my powder I was noticing that the scale would change weights even with nothing on it, at first I thought it was vibration or something but it got more and more frequent, it was varying from the 37.1 grains I was loading down to 36.4 and up to 37.7 after giving me a weight of 37.1. At this time I stopped to check it out further I had 150 cases charged, so at first I just let the scale sit with nothing on it and sure enough it did the same, lost and gained weight with nothing on it at all, so I then took my cases and dumped them back into the tray on the scale one by one and out of the 150 that originally weighed 37.1 grains of powder only 8 gave me that weight the rest varied like I said before from 36.4 grs to 37.7 grs. At this point I decided to call Hornady about a replacement scale, the lady that I was transfered to about this happened to say in our conversation that they have been having issues with this scale for some time now and at the time they were out of stock and when they did get them in they wouldn't be able to send a new one to me any time soon because they had to do some testing on the new ones before they could send any out. I then happened to ask her that because there's a known problem with the GS-1500 if they had any intention of doing a recall to which I really didn't get a straight answer ( I wonder if it just slipped about the known problem). So I'm writing this on here as a warning to anyone that happens to have the Hornady GS-1500 powder scale to pay very close attention to it when your using it, or better still call Hornady and ask them about the problem with this scale that they happen to know about, this is not a hobby to be using faulty tools in and even worse using faulty tools that the manufacturer knows about and seems to be doing nothing. Oh and buy the way I told them I don't wish to get the replacement scale because of the issues with it and that I'd take something in place of it to which they agreed and I ordered a better scale on amazon. It's the Hornady GS-1500 powder scale, be careful with it. This is in no way part of any dispute with Hornady about anything, I find their service great and have almost all Hornady reloading gear and will continue to use Hornady unless they don't have what I need and in the case of the scale. I wrote this strictly to make anyone using this scale to be careful and pay close attention to how it behaves
