Hell, I don't even own an 870, I've just been borrowing one! Now that the local store has some MM's in it time to go shopping! BTW I was to the range again yesterday, I didn't shoot as much as G37, box of slugs, box of 000Buck (3" magnum), 25 of #2. Not a mark on my shoulder... Though I think a set of ghost rings might be a good idea, because when using the rifle sights I did get 'kissed' twice by the stock.
 
It's the next day and my mark is already gone... it was more of a red impression (not a bruise). However, with the standard stocks I'd have a bruise for a couple days easy.

I opted for the bargoon NRS version just because I wanted a high-quality full PG stock at a sub-Mesa price. It's perfect. All my stockpiled 12g ammo is reduced-recoil anyways, and I never had a problem shooting regular loads all morning with my regular buttstock. I figured for $89 against similarly-priced Choate and Speedfeed stocks it was a no-brainer.
 
My opinion of the SpecOps stock is that it's a total waste of money.

I built a shotgun for a client and installed said stock, as supplied.

Upon test firing, I didn't notice any difference between it and my pistolgrip stock, using slugs.

The really downside is that you have to remove the stock to take out the trigger group, at which point you would need a 3/16" ball end Allen wrench.

Plus, you cannot replace the safety with a larger head one.
 
Talking to people, it seems that if recoil is not an issue for, than it's not worth it, however if recoil bugs you (and I am one of these) then the differance is very noticeable.
 
Cool! with all these great reviews i'm glad i was able to grab the last one at Italian.:dancingbanana: A quick question, what do you guys think of the Knoxx PowerPak System? Think it would get in the way at all? Meaning, do you think it would make the stock too bulky. I'm thinking of ordering one from Questar.

Plus I think the SpecOps is UGLY AS HELL.
 
Am I the only one that thinks the R3 does just a good of a job if not better? Plus my sling bites me pretty hard sometimes when I rapid fire. Not planning to take it off just slightly disappointed.

I shot some trap this weekend with a 14" Norinco with the spec ops stock and a 28" Rem 870 Wingmaster with a factory stock. Suprisingly the Norinco had substantially less recoil than the Remington. Both myself and my buddy agreed that the spec ops stock made a big difference.
I'd recommend the spec ops stock for its recoil reducing ability alone, but the adjustable stock is a nice bonus when there is a few different size shooters using the gun.
 
I bought mine more for the adjustable stock then the recoil reduction.
I agree with Pete in that it's a PITA to put the stock on or remove it without the extra long allen wrench but it can be done.
It does what it says it will do and that's good enough for me.

I too thought this initially, but it's not true, it just takes a little maneuvering. I remove the barrel, bolt and slide, then the carrier needs to be in the "up" position and the trigger group will drop out, no problems.

I've also installed the stock with a regular 3/16" "L" shaped allen key - no problems at all (just takes more time cause you need to keep removing and inserting it.)

It must have been the NRS stock, as IMHO the recoil reducing stock does the job quite well.

I borrowed a Maverick 88 shotgun which are notorious kickers, and it had a knoxx recoil reducing stock installed. After a whole day at the trap, and slug range and didn't want to give it back, and go back to my stock Maverick. :D

Getting one of these stocks is still on my list. :D

Did your wrench "stick" in the bolt head? Mine did..which doubled the PITA factor.

The "buffer" tube which is actually one inside another. The inside one has the 5 adjusting holes for the buttstock. It moves under recoil.
Ignore the puppy..she thought she needed to be in the pics. :D

The other part of the recoil reducing mechanism. The part the receiver is bolted to moves back over the pistol grip under recoil. That is why you can't use the oversized safety. It would hit the grip.

Oh, and Striker... I forgot to mention that I took the sharp edges off of the allen key so it wouldn't stick ;) sorry... I should've mentioned that - I know what you mean though, it would double the PITA factor being so tight otherwise (this is one of those things I just did from past experiences and allen keys in tight places).

By the way... looks very sweet with your Marine Magnum. Just wait until you shoot it!! You're gonna love it!

Yeah, I'll be doing that as soon as the ol' tax return comes in. I spent my "SpecOps" money on some reloading equipment when I saw that none were available.

The next day people started posting some for sale in the EE.

......and yes, my timing is always this good.

I first used a regular wrench, and it stuck like crazy. PITA crazy.

Then I picked up a cheap set of ball head wrenches from Princess Auto. Smooth as can be. Big difference. I guess that's why the site recommends them. It must be an angle thing.
