So I am trying to come to a decision between the Kodiak WK180C or the WS MCR. I know both rifles had a fair amount of issues and complaints when they first came out, but it seems over the years they have made a lot of improvements. I am hoping for some first-hand experience from owners or gun store employees who have recently acquired one so they can speak to any new improvements made? Intending to use the gun for mostly sport shooting and possibly some small game hunting.

My limited research has come up with the following: The MCR is slightly more expensive than the Kodiak, but looks a bit better in my opinion. The Kodiak is widely available right now both locally and online, whereas the MCR is not. The MCR has a heavier barrel, but apparently, Kodiak has made the newer 180's with a heavier barrel as well. The MCR seems to have fewer problems and warranty issues, but not by very much. It seems to be a very even match. It may come down to the fact the Kodiak I can go pick up right away, but I do not want to do that if the MCR is worth waiting for.

WK180C
- now has just as thick a barrel as the MCR. It wasn't a issue when it didn't.

- has a shorter standard rail (longer versions exist if you want) and being realistic short of putting a bipod all the way to the end it makes no difference except reducing your rifle weight.

- Has issues with the cocking handle, kodiak will cover them under warranty so no dramas

- Has a pretty heavy weight but functional trigger

WS-MCR
- has the longer rail

- has a better standard trigger

- doesn't have the cocking handle breakage

My opinion

Buy the 180c, use the couple hundred dollars you save on a better trigger and a sling. The customer service kodiak offers makes up for any flaws.

My bias: I've owned a 180c for 15 months and put 7000 rounds through it

Bratwurst,
Any chance you could post a few pictures of yours after 7000 rounds to get an idea of the wear? Also, have they made where the bolt rides back and forth steel to reduce wear from the steel on aluminum? Brass deflector?

Thank you

Sure just point me to a place where I can share the pictures easily.

Honestly the cocking handle rub just isn't a big deal. Breakage is but rapido customer service resolves this.

I got myself a WS MCR as I lucked out and a local gun shop had 3 in stock... PLUS when I went to Cabelas to check out the WK, they only had one left which the sales guy proceeded to drop on the floor.. This combined with the fact the MCR's have less issues from the factory, the steel wear plates on the upper receiver and the ability to mount accessories right up front sold me. Very pleased with first impressions. Will be taking it out several times this weekend to zero in the optic and test it out. Also got a few different types of ammo to try. Will report back!

I went with a WK180C a while back. So far it's been pretty good. My charging handle broke at the 800 round mark. Kodiak replaced no problem. No other damage from the handle breaking.
Slight finish wear on the inside of the slot where the handle rides. Not an issue in my opinion.
Spectre Ballistics has "Enhanced" charging handles for purchase. I picked one of those up and it's been awesome so far.
I heard talk of the inside of the reciever getting gouged by the bolt cam pin? So far this has not happened. But only about 2k rounds total through the pipe.
Kodiak has replacement parts listed on their site and TNA carries replacement parts.
Added an external bolt release to make it feel more AR15. I adhered a thin piece of felt on part of the release to keep it from scratching the outside of the reciever. Not sure if that was ever an issue for anyone but it feels tighter.
In my opinion the trigger was pretty "meh". Functional but could be better. Dropped a triggertech combat 5.5lb in and it feels a lot better.
Also added a brass deflector from a guy on instagram. Working fine so far.

I use IMGUR.com personally. They have a phone app so I can take a picture and upload it quickly and easily.
If you'd rather not deal with figuring out how to work any of the popular hosting sites, you can PM me for my email and then email me the pictures, I can put them up for you this afternoon.

I wanted to get a WS MCR, but then I learned that they did away with the reversible charging handle. As I shoot left handed, having the charging handle on the right side is preferred for me so I'm now leaning towards the WK180c.

Stopped at shop yesterday, they happened to have a 180 and a ws mcr, i went with the mcr for the top retaining pin , got home and mounted a 1-4 x24 vortex crossfire 2 30mm in a set of high rings, made it to the range today to sight in, fired about 120rds of red 55 fmj, mfs 62gr soft point and some wartak reman 55gr soft point, just wanted to play today so quick zero at 50yds and then on to the steel gongs at 100 and at 200 yrds, with a rest it boringly consistent with all the ammo types so far, i’ll do some serious groups later , i also had two other mag types in addition to the one it came with i used 2 d&h tactical 5/30 and 3 rra lar-15 10rounders, zero malfunctions regardless of ammo or mag combinations and all 6 dropped free when empty, definitely going to be taking it after coyotes and giving my sl8 a break for a while

I just recently bought a Kodiak WK-180 from SFRC.
(I also got the Zhukov stock they're selling with it.)

This rifle is WAY nicer than the ones I saw a few years ago.

Machining is really nice. Finish is really nice. No sharp edges.
