I would deffenatly want a piece of this history.

FWIW:
As I understand it , most of the Allied troops in the Korean War used US weapons and gear. Some exceptions included: The Commonwealth countries with Enfields & Brens , etc and the Belgians & Colombians with FN-49 in 30'06.

According to oral history from an older gent near Bangor who had been with the US liason team to the Ethiopians:
They started with Commonwealth supplied Enfields & Brens. The Ethiopians were a little leary of the Garands at first -- not sure if they wanted the swap . After some training and shooting , they never looked back. The Bren/Bar swap never happened. They took the BAR's but flat refused to give up their beloved Brens , so the US team had the supply guys get ammo from the Commonwealth units. The Ethiopians would leave the BAR's in the rear with the gear when moving. When they were in static positions , the BAR's would be brought up to add to the firepower.

Here's some scenes from a movie that was released in several languages a few years ago. I don't want to completely spoil the story , so these are just a couple of guns/ action/shooting scenes.
Metric tons of milsurp guns. The bad guys have a mix of mostly USSR stuff , along with some Japanese and German WW2 left-overs .
Warning: Not for kids' eyes.

The guns that went to Korea in the very early 1950's were used hard. Most of them got wet.

The Optimal Infantry LMG and rifle combination

The BAR and the Lee-Enfield were both outmoded WW1 weapons which showed their limitions in WW2 and Korea to the detriment of the infantry who were saddled with them. The BREN and the Garand were next generation infantry small arms which served to offset the firepower limitations of the BAR and Lee-Enfield.

The limitations of the BAR and Lee-Enfield became even more apparent in Korea when dealing with Chinese "human wave" assaults which simply overwhelmed the ability of the defenders to kill them due to insufficient high volume automatic fire in the infantry squads/sections. What saved the day throughout was the fact that the Chinese did not have either the mobility or the logistics to exploit local successes, as well as the volume and quality of US/Commonwealth artillery fires and tactical air support.

The ideal small arms combination for the infantry in WW2 and Korea would have been the Garand coupled with the BREN had it been available in .30-06. It borders on criminal that Commonwealth infantry were still stuck with the 19th century Lee-Enfield for the duration of the Korean War. Considerable numbers of the troops did their own sums on this and unofficially aquired and used both Garands and M1/M2 Carbines.

Looks like the ATF has doing some serious homework on the issue . Chatter indicates that the following position paper was leaked just before a scheduled congressional hearing on the BATFE Reform and Modernization Bill. The hearing was postponed.

If that link goes belly up , try David Codrea's article at examiner.com:
"ATF: Surplus Korean firearms imports ' pose a threat to public safety in the US " . Here's a link that might work:
