Korth groups new warranty policy

Absolutely untrue
Any Leupold scopes dated after Nov. 2011 not originally imported by Korth Canada will not be serviced under warranty. You can tell the date of manufacture by the serial number on your scope, located on the underside of the scope tube, by the windage and elevation adjustments.

Scopes from 1974-1992 started with a letter for a serial number, after that they ended with a letter. (prefix/suffix)

Serial number dating:

Prefix Suffix
E = 1974 A = 1993
F = 1975 B = 1994
G = 1976 C = 1995
H = 1977 D = 1996
J = 1978 E = 1997
K = 1979 F = 1998
L = 1980 G = 1999
M = 1981 H = 2000
N = 1982 J = 2001
P = 1983 K = 2002
R = 1984 L = 2003
S = 1985 M = 2004
T = 1986 N = 2005
U = 1987 P = 2006
V = 1988 R = 2007
W = 1989 T = 2008
X = 1990 U = 2009
Y = 1991 V = 2010
Z = 1992 W = 2011

X = 2012
Y = 2013
AA = 2014
AB = 2015
AC = 2016

This thread is full of useless misinformation. All Leupold scopes are serviced by Korth regardless of origin (US, Bass Pro, Cabelas etc etc).

I guess Korth just hasn't updated their website then?

I guess so.

But since a poster on this thread just said he had an old M8 serviced that hasnt been made in a long long time and there is no proof of purchase for it I guess thats a pretty good indication.

And the OP got the "has to be purchased through one of our dealers" line directly from them recently as well.
I think it was 2011 or newer scopes (or thereabouts) where the dealer chain warranty comes into play.

Absolutely untrue

OK, where's the link that proves otherwise?

Actually, I did make a slight error. It's Nov. 2010, not 2011.

This policy was put in force to ensure that effective immediately (actual date of November 1st, 2010) all Leupold products being offered for sale in Canada are of a legally imported/exported nature. This is to protect the end user and also the dealer from illegal copies and optics which have not followed the proper import/export procedures. Note: This does not include optics purchased before Nov 1st, 2010.

If you or any individual purchase a USED Optic from outside of Canada you MUST according to US State Department and Canadian Import Law(s) apply for Export Approval documentation through the US Commerce/State Department. Once this is approved this documentation must accompany the Optic when Crossing the Border (whether by mail or vehicle).

Our company in conjunction with Leupold USA is governed by US and Canadian Law and are responsible for obtaining permits from the US Commerce/State Department on ALL OPTICS imported into Canada. If an individual has not submitted an application and been approved then the imported Optic would be deemed illegal.

All Leupold products have Serial numbers and can be traced by both date of manufacture and origin. Therefore this statement is effective November 1st /2010 and only for Leupold optics whose serial number when tracked proves to be from a source other than from Leupold US to Korth Group Ltd. in Canada and will have its warranty voided.

All authorized dealers located on our website at www.korthgroup.com under the Dealer Locator can be used to determine if you are purchasing from an authorized Leupold Dealer in Canada and thus allowing peace of mind that all optics will be covered in Canada for warranty service.

Hopefully this will allow you a better understanding of the new policy and put you at ease regarding the product(s) you own.

Just to re-affirm this only pertains to scopes manufactured from Nov 1st 2010 – so anything pre-this date is not an issue. The only option at this moment to check Serial #’s on Optics you wish to purchase is to call Leupold USA and they can advise you quite efficiently the details associated to the scope. With regards to purchasing new vs used the only thing is to buy from a reputable person/dealer and similar to purchasing a vehicle if you do the homework first by confirming the Serial # and then the Import/Export if its in question.

Hope this answers all of your questions, feel free to contact us for more information.

Called and spoke with Korth customer service.

Was told that they warranty all Leuopold scopes regardless of where they were purchased and lifetime guarantee.

Can you call them back and ask them to update their website? Lol

On a side note, I see the Philippines have told the US to GFT and aligned with China and her ideals. I imagine this is going to have an impact on a lot optics companies like Nikon/Burris/Vortex/ and to a lesser extent Bushnell. Glass from there will either drop off in quality to Chinese standards, or be priced higher then Japanese glass in the near future if they keep up with the higher quality.
Not to mention the Prezidente says he's going to dump 100,000 dead bodies in Manila Bay until the fish grow fat.... probably not good for global investment.

My guess is Korth was trying to limit warranty to only items they sold and Leupold said all or no exclusive distribution for the Canadian market....just a guess though.

I told you the head repair guy is a CGN member of course this was seen. There is a reason I buy & use Leupold they have the best warranty & they offer great products end of story.
it's like Ford, Chevy & Dodge you will get guys that are brand loyal and your not going to change there mind. if you don't like Leupold good for you, more on EE for me.

I feel better now lol. I know the shop I bought it from (cgn business member) does their own thing with Leupold stateside and would take care of any problems if I had any, but it's nice to know I can get quick repairs here too. Have some newer Redfields as well that came from a big shop that probably didn't go through Korth.
