I have the chance to purchase a Kowa TSN 771. Price is $800. Comes with a tripod and cover. Magnification is 25x. Will I be able to see .308 holes at 200 meters? Thanks in advance for any info.

Buy buy buy. I have the 664 and paid 900 for just the scope, no eye piece - can't recommend it enough. If you choose not to buy it tell me where it is and I will.

I can see .22 holes in white, green or red at 200 yards at 20 power and up. All depending on the mirage.
Now in black and no mirage it is really hard. But if the conditions are right, sometimes.
.308 in black. Yes. Again mirage makes things difficult though.
I rarely use black targets.

I have a Kowa 82 with 20 x 60

Yes. I own also the 600 series scope and I paid about the same price with its original eyepiece.
Nice clear optics.....

I did upgrade to maximum 60x though as soon as I was able to do so.

I use a 663 with 25X LER eyepiece. I have seen .30 holes at 400 meters under exceptional conditions. Rare occurrence. Holes at 200 is reasonable, with decent atmospherics and good hole/background contrast.

That is a remarkable price, if its in good shape.
I am a Kowa fan. I own the 773 with the 25-60X eyepiece and its awesome!
On Kowa's website they state that the TE-11WZ 25-60X eye piece is compatible with the TSN 770 series. So it looks like you could expand that 771 to the long range higher zoom power if you wanted.

One of the reasons I chose Kowa for my first spotting scope was their commitment to compatibility for parts and accessories as their optics evolved.

Jump on it.

I also have a 773 with the 25-60 eyepiece, but all Kowas are very good, check that, high quality optics.

Unless it is damaged you can get your money out later if you wish to upgrade.

When I was into birding in a biggish way, other birders regarded my Kowa spotting scope with hushed awe and high regard. It's what you would call the highest tribute an optical device can receive.

I have a Kowa 553 and I've had the genesis binos. Both are top notch and my eyes don't really see too much of a difference between my current swaro ELs and the Kowa Genesis binos.

I bought the 77mm 30 yrs ago to be able to see doubled 30cal holes at 200 yds, 20-60 eyepiece, still have it, won't part with it, well worth every penny. Just mount it on a good tripod. At the time I bought a Manfrotto with the 128RC head, they haven't really changed price much in 30 yrs and are still avail at Henry's for 300.00 as Manfrotto 290 Xtra Kit MT290XTA3 with 128RC. They're heavy, but definitely what is needed to use that scope properly, bought another one last year to mount my Oehler on as the cheapie tripod I had used with it got busted in transit. 30 yrs of banging around in the back of the truck, the Manfrotto is still going strong.
