Hello,

I recently bought two Krag 1915, who seems to be sporter versions of Norwegian or Danish models - as I have been told. I'm having some question around them; I would like to have some pro advices on the rifles, like is there any modern ammo it can take, can it shoot, to whom can I talk if I want to regive them a new life etc. So, yeah, If any of you have high level of knowledge about Krags, feel free to inform me.

Thanks.

Thanks. Is there any way of knowing this is exacly the caliber by looking somewhere on the gun ? I thought it was 6.55x55mm that goes in these KRAG. It would have been simpler if it would be an american model in .30-40.

Norwegian krags should be 6.5x55. They also have a semi pistol grip where as the American Krag that shoots 30-40 krag has a straight stalk. That’s a way to tell between those rifles. You could look it over for a Norwegian model number too like M1894, there are several other models like carbines with different model numbers but a Wikipedia search should get you a list. Not sure what your gun stores are like but the one I go to has 6.5x55 on the shelf year round. You could see if they have a dummy round to cycle through it. Wish I could help more. If anyone sees an error please feel free to correct as I’d hate to give bad advice

Sorry forgot to mention this and I’m not 100% on this but I think Danish krags have a straight bolt handle and American and Norwegian have a bent bolt handle. So look at you bold and stalk and you should be able to narrow it down. Good luck hope this helps!

Just look at the muzzle. If you don't have calipers, use a tape measure. If the hole is less than 8 mm across, it's 6.5x55. Danish Krags were, as mentioned chambered for the 8X58R cartridge, which was the same cartridge they used in their Remington Rolling Blocks. Great cartridge.

Bertram and Graf make the brass. 8mm bullets are available at any local gunshop that carries reloading supplies.

If one or both are Norwegian Krags, they will be 6.5x55. However, if sporters they could have been altered. I had a Norwegian sporter that had been rechambered for the 6.5x54 Mannlicher Schoenauer round.

I shall try to help clarify.

There is three main types of Krags, American, Norwegian, and Danish.

Odds are you have Norwegian Krags as if they were Danish Krags they would have barrel jackets, straight bolts, and the magazine would open forward instead of downwards.

Likely calibers for a sporter Norwegian Krag is 6.5x55 or 6.5x54ms.

As to ammo, it is recommended you handload lower pressure leadings as these aren’t the strongest guns.

Best of luck

Well this save's me from starting the same thread.

I also just picked up a Krag-Jorgensen Model 1912 carbine (1915) in 6.5 Swedish. Definitely sporterized nothing matches.
Even has Chrome stock plate and trigger guard. Thinking maybe off of a parade rifle??? Anyone know

Anyway dirt cheat...and it came with some 1950's 6.5 ammo.

HuskyDude………….The boxes of Globe brand ammo that came along with your rifle are a very nice addition to your purchase, I can't remember the last time I saw any of those boxes. Really nice score for you!

That is a great find HuskeyDude with that bonus ammo! Been wanting to pick up one of these Krags in 6.5x55 myself.

Curious myself as to the chrome but even more curious how she will shoot! ;)
